Why don't more cars use sequential shifting instead of gates and shit?
force people not to speed shift?
Because expensive.
it's more fuel efficient to skip shift
>>17623244
Because normies don't know how to use them.
>>17623312
Not really, since you can easily put a sequential system on a regular cable-operated FWD transmission.
But muh reverse
>>17623340
bruh
>>17623336
you literally just take your foot off the gas and push the lever faggot
>>17623539
That's not how a regular sequential with synchros works though. You can only do that on a dogbox - unless you've got some computer activating a clutch behind your back.
Ride a bike if you want sequential dog box tranny.
I'd love a sequential dog box in my STI, the 5 speed in it is very slow to shift... I bet you could shave 2 seconds off a 1/4 mile time with one.
>>17624381
what is the shifting speed difference between a paddle shift and a dog box?
>>17624399
The practical difference between a paddle shift DCT and a sequential dogbox is zero.
>>17624425
but the dog box is a lot lighter so that makes it better?
>>17624399
Who cares? Paddle shift means you have a ton more electronic shit to install.
Dog box is all mechanical, unless it's got a system to cut the revs like a Yamaha Quickshifter system.
>>17624041
ever heard of clutchless shifting anon
>>17624448
Yes I have (I own a motorcycle), and it's impossible to implement on consumer cars, unless you use fancy electronics.
>>17624466
It's possible and done in rally spec cars
Just if you fuck up, you destroy the gearbox with mad car torks, and it's hard to manage without close gearing that would bother normies and hurt empeegees
>>17624466
its called floating the gears and you can absolutely do it, i did it in my car for shits and giggles but it rapes the synchros so i only did it a couple of times
>>17624586
Rallycars have dogboxes though. You can't realistically put those in consumer cars.
>>17624654
M8 I rode home without a clutch too many times to count (protip: lube your clutch cable), I know how it works. It just doesn't work for consumers.
