What are the most expensive parts of a new car? I'm speaking broadly, like engine, transmission, etc.
Engine then transmission I would assume.

Body or interior are probably up there.
The monocoque chassis.
ECU is worth a pretty penny nowadays, isn't it?

Well if we want to include labor time to install, then a full body and engine harness

1 computer isn't too bad, but if you're like the dumbfuck who rolled into our shop the other day, kid put his jumper cable clamps on the wrong posts then had his friend rev the engine while he tried to start it, then just let the sparks fucking fly, and ended up burning every single module, then it gets fucking expensive.
Brand name
if the Active Body Control system on certain Mercedes develops literally any problem at all the hydroponic system grenades itself and the whole system can cost anywhere from $9,000 to $15,000 to fix and normally only a dealer can do it due to rare/impossible to get parts unless you happen to be a Mercedes mechanic

PCMs are usually $.300-500.
Body panels and expensive, it's the labor which makes it expensive. Same goes for headgasket replacement, timing chain replacement, power window replacement.
Head units are fucking knarly. Most OEM touch screen displays are $1000 by themselves, and then you factor in installment.
