So, I'm looking to buy a car to replace one I've been having issues with for a while. I'm been looking around, and I've got my eyes on one of these. It fits all of my needs and wants, and I can get one for a relatively low mileage for a good price.
Is there any good reason I shouldn't be looking to buy this? Most of the comments I've ever heard about this car are memes about its looks, which I never even understood. Other than that, I don't know of any reason I should be wary.
It's ugly but it's basically a wagon malibu with a manual tranny. They are pretty reliable with the ecotec engine.

they're okay. Performance is kinda anemic and the battery location is pants-on-head retarded. I actually like how they look.
I rented one once. Drove it ~3000 miles round trip.
Horribly uncomfortable car. I'm not that big, but I couldn't fit comfortably in it.
I couldn't spread my legs at all.
I drive a Honda Fit and it's just fine, so it's not even an issue of me not being used to small cars.

Been driving one for about 5 years now, and I would say go for it OP if you can find one under 100,000 miles.
The kind of people that drive these cars are either your run of the mill average joes who know how to take care of a vehicle and perform basic maintenance, or complete bumbling idiots who don't know why changing oil is important, they just pay the guys at Valvoline to do it every 5,000 miles. If you're buying directly from a seller, make sure they are the former, not the latter.
It's a nice little car for what it's worth and will take you places comfortably. The ChevyHHR.net forum goers are all reasonably nice people who really like this car and there are plenty of them who have gotten this car to 300, even 500k before it quits on them.
Go for it OP, just don't expect TOO much out of it. It's a quintessential shitbox.
