Lets speculate about future dystopian car culture.

>infrastructure is still going to be a clusterfuck for centuries, so private car ownership will still be normal for a transition period between now and complete autonomous transport
>cars are going to progressively get more complicated and expensive, integrated self driving, tracking, "smart features"
>California/Europe style car regulations are going to push most sports and classic cars off the road(at least legally)
>you'll be forced to buy relatively new cars every decade or so if you want to stay on the road, only the more affluent can afford this
>public transit will continue to grow to provide transportation to those who can't afford new cars
>all new cars will be GPS tracked and positional metadata will be sent to nearby cell towers for police and management
>most shitboxes will be bare minimum self driving pieces of shit, anything with power or manual control is a luxury car for CEOs, police, or government officials
>attempting to exceed the speed limit in manual mode will be revblocked by the car and you'll be ticketed for it by the police intercepting your metadata
>underground racing/car scene is more electronic than mechanical where people create "ghost cars" which don't transmit data and have custom jailbroken firmwares that give the driver full control over their actions
>people who build ghost cars bribe junkyard owners for totaled luxury sport frames and parts and weld and heavily modify shit to make it work for them
>cars are complete usually riced out clusterfucks with missing bumpers and custom swaps of obscure and sometimes outdated and experimental motors
>ghost cars are hunted down by police every day, employing directed EMPs, counterhacking, and races to stop them
>entire subculture dedicated to off the grid transportation solutions spends their time fighting police regulation and being speed demons mad max style

>Europe style car regulations
If anything, they are very lenient to classics. It only has to pass safety and emissions regulations that were in effect when the car was first registered. Oldtimers are often exempt from taxes and sometimes even inspections

nice, now i need IT nerds even for illegal street racing. I'd rather use the bus then.

>autonomous cars become commonplace
>insurance for drivable cars becomes prohibitively expensive for average people
literally my worst nightmare

>>17569675
do we get Akira-style motorcycles?

>California/Europe style car regulations are going to push most sports and classic cars off the road(at least legally)
What the hell are you even talking about, you complete fucking nonce? No car regulations in the world have never been applied retroactively. Old cars always get grandfathered.

yet. just wait a few more years.

If self driving/electric cars become the norm, governments will probably throw older cars under the bus to appear progressive because they're "dangerous" and "not green". In Japan it's very hard to keep an old car on the road simply because of how strict emissions and safety regulations are, they have to be spotless and neutered. That's why there are giant piles of classics rusting away in junkyards over there, it'll be the same way over here as soon as they get the chance.

Lots of non-Japanese Asian countries have retroactive automobile regulations.

Motorcycles are either going to be outright banned for being unsafe or become extremely popular in response to increasing car and energy costs and outnumber cars in the future. I don't know which is more likely.

no not "yet", it'll never happen because it would drive dealerships out of business, make their entire used inventory illegal to sell and leave current owners of "illegal" vehicles stranded, unable to do anything but scrap their cars, which is a condition the market regulations currently in place have actively tried to avoid by establishing timeframes into which cars built must comply.

This is why you can still legally register and drive cars built a hundred years ago despite them having zero emissions controls and leaking oil on purpose.

this entire thread is self-masturbatory pessimistic futurist wankery with no basis in reality and OP is a faggot.

What utter nonsense. You know in most developing nations motorcycles are how the majority of mobile citizens get around? They take less space on the road, use less gas, and are easier to maintain. You gonna ban scooters too? How will people with no license and no self-driving shitbox get around?
Protip: you will still need a license to operate a self-driving car.

What you will probably see is a kind of self-balancing system that will simply not let the bike fall over, preventing a major cause of motorcycle injuries and death which is just crashing by yourself. Imagine a bike that will let you lean into the pavement and still maintain grip with a gyro forcing the wheels into the asphalt at the same time you're hanging off the side. That shit's gonna be the future.

Bikes man, then the wannabe badasses can put up or shut up
