if the toyobaru engine is just the wrx engine without a turbo, why do people constantly say putting a turbo on a toyobaru will blow it up? if anything, isn't the wrx proof that the FA20 can take boost reliably?
pic unrelated
Probably the non-turbo engine has a high compression ratio, meaning that slapping a turbo on there will result in detonation on pump gas unless you run low boost and a good tune.
ignorance.
also compression ratio.
i think the wrx is cheap enough that if you wanted the engine you could drive the wrx instead of the brz. thats my opinion, i kind of like the wrx more. doesn't steer nearly as well though.

there is nothing fundamentally wrong with high compression and a turbo, in fact thats what a lot of modern engines have, like ecoboost. but they are very conservatively tuned.
>if the toyobaru engine is just the wrx engine without a turbo
It's not

The ecoboost is already turbo'd retard. Turbo increases compression further.

the fa20 in a brz/frs/gt86 has a high compression ratio since its na. I put a turbo rated for 350whp on my brz and only ran it at 7psi so i wouldn't blow the internals. only making 260whp atm, but if you want more boost you need better internals with a lower compression ratio, and some little things in between like an oil cooler, larger radiator, better clutch, fuel injectors, fuel pump... the list keeps going on and on.

The fa20 wasn't designed to take boost.

>in the WRX
>not designed to take boost
Que?
It doesn't just blow up, thats a meme
People automatically think a high compression NA engine = no FI possible, ever
It takes low boost pretty well, some people have done 300whp setups for over 50k miles fine.

what turbo kit did you use? I might do the same on my 86, 260hp would be plenty for me

>FA20 = FA20DIT - tarbo rite guise hurr
might aswell just get nitrous, it functions better on higher compression engines due to how cold the intake temps become
a 100 shot is perfectly safe if you don't constantly use it, and an NX kit costs like $1500
