(EU) Which "smaller commercial van" should I buy for mixed (commercial and personal use)?
Used (up to 5 years old) or new?

There are three types of cars I found.
- Normal cars where you have the back seats removed. So it's a wagon usually with the back empty. ...Looks decent (not that I care), less consumption. Cons: Can carry less/smaller shit.
- Smaller commercial vehicles such as Ford Connect, Dacia Dokker Van and so on. ...Can carry more, but also eats more than a "van car".
- Mid-size commercial vehicles such as Ford Custom, Peugeot Expert and such. Can carry most from out of the tree. Drives luck a big van though, is big, and drinks big.

So far the Dacia Dokker Van looked okayish, but I also thought about buying a used van, such as an older Ford Connect.
Then again almost all used cars have ~125k miles on them where the transmission or common rail system gives in. Or both.

What would you buy? Used or new?

I mostly go for "cheapest, most sane" decision, but I am also fine with paying a bit more to buy something that won't kill my ass/back on a longer trip.

> inb4 why not buy a new Connect
I loved that vehicle, it was fucking top-notch. But it's bloody expensive and no matter who is at fault when there is an accident, you won't get back 100% of your car's value.

Well okay, there were a few issues:
- Engine ran cold for way too long. Like in winter, I had to go 15-30 miles just to get it warmed up.
- Paint was so thin, even paper boxes scraped it off. Not even kidding. Like Ford forgot to use clearcoat.

Other than these two it was good though.

I'd get a new Dokker personally. Had a Logan myself for 5 years and it never put a foot wrong. Doesn't depreciate hardly at all, you buy the thing for 10k new and sell it for 5k when the warranty runs out.

Obviously they're pretty spartan in terms of creature comforts and they're no race cars but for utilitarian transport for cheap I don't think you can beat Dacia.

Not OP but we've had a Citroen Jumper for 7 years in my company and it's been in the shop more than our three Transits combined (each between 8 and 15 years old).
The sliding door breaks like every other week, the windscreen wipers stopped working, the windscreen itself wasn't sealed properly from the factory so after a year or two it started leaking, the lefthand side mirror fell off, a shelf we had installed in the back that was screwed to the frame actually ripped a hole into the metal fucking frame (same shelf we've had on Transits for decades and never had any issues), the window slider button on the passenger side just flatout fell into the doorframe one day when it was pushed, the central locking stops working every other year, and the back doors don't close properly so the car always tells you they're open. Oh and the driver seatbelt got tangled up inside somehow so you couldn't strap in.

So yeah, I'm not sure on Citroen anymore desu. Bought a new Transit last year, reliability has its price I guess.

Thanks, that's good to hear.
Yeah I don't expect much from them to be honest, cruise control / AC and I am settled. They also praised the 1.5L diesel engine in reviews. Would go petrol to be honest (no dual mass flywheel, no DPF, no high-pressure pumps, basically everything that goes bad if you have a diesel)... but then again reviews said pick the 1.5L Diesel.

Protip: If you have a transit van (big one), it will have an engine light come on after months of ownership. It will go into limp mode when this happens. At first you can just restart the van to make it go away, but later it gets "sticky" (I.e.: cannot reset).

The solution is to replace the "MAF" sensor. The UK forum members also had this. Our van started having the issue after a year or so (new Transit), but the code didn't store and always went away after restart. Last week we had this trip planned out (deliver goods to several customers, visit a site, have a meeting)... of course it went into a permanent limp mode that day.

The sensor is piss cheap btw, like 15$.

Oh and the Ford warranty... it's 2+3 years.
If you pass the 2 years, they will have to send in a list to Ford to check if the repair is under warranty. So it went down like:
> Service: here is the problem
> Service: you will have to leave your van here for a day
> us: we cannot really, we have to get home, tomorrow is another work day
> Service: well sir, we can get your van fixed if you don't do it under warranty
> us: what? how much would that cost?
> Service: only 15$, and this way it will be done in 10 minutes

Of course we opted for the pay version (it was 50$ with labor and all), but holy fuck. It's like they take your van as ransom, and I am not even kidding.

So yeah, good luck, they are fine vehicles, only the service sucks big time.
If you ever have engine problems, just take it to a diesel specialist, they can do a lot more, lot faster and hellofalot cheaper than Ford can. Speaking from experience.

By the way, is there a "Longer Dokker Van" , or longer Berlingo?
Our totaled Connect was LWB and could house two palettes.
Of course, this just meant our boxes/shit + 1 full EU palette, but you get the idea.
