>first level 3 autonomous cars will be hitting the road in a few months
How many more years do we have before insurance companies start reaming your asshole for not having some level of self driving features?

They can't even handle what passes for roads in most areas.
They still have a very long way to go, in terms of functioning outside perfect roads in perfect conditions
I think it'll be quite a few years left until an autonomos car can function properly and effectively in rough winter conditions, mountain roads and roads that are simply so far away from civilization that they're not mapped all that well

What you describe is level 5 automation, and I have a feeling we're definitely going to see some changes from insurance companies long before that when new vehicles with level 4 automation that can handle driving to work/stores in all but particularly rough weather conditions start becoming common (which is regularly predicted as being less than a decade out).

You as voters have to keep an eagle eye out on privacy laws. Don't allow those cars to phone home the data to the insurance or law enforcement.
Otherwise you'll be prosecuted because your own car snitches on you.

When that level of automation processing intelligence exists, many people will be out of a job. That's because many factories, processing plants, and retail stores won't need as many or even any employees for certain tasks once automation reaches level 5.

Oh well, I do the stats and write the code. Time for a promotion.

It's already starting. Some insurance companies are already giving discounts for basic collision detection/avoidance features and auto manufacturers have already agreed to make features like automatic braking standard by 2022.
