Drove a mates ek sedan a few years ago. Took off the exhaust and pissed off the whole suburb. Felt like driving a go-kart. Was manual and incredibly underpowered but more fun than other high horsepower cars I've driven.

I think the love for older civics comes exactly from that lack of power. You can drive a 1990 EF boring and normal, and come out hating the car for its speed, or you can push it whenever you want. The low power means you aren't dangerously speeding when you step on the gas, and the light chassis really overreacts to throttle inputs. You can push it and have fun whenever you want, because 3rd gear redline is barely 46km/h.
