Kinda seems like most modern SUVs can't climb, get stuck in 1ft high grass and you have to pay out your ass if you want some rough fun
I don't think they cater to the hicks that climb rocks and moreso to the usual type of people that buy them like families with money.
Buy an old Tracker from the 90s.

but why SUVs when they don't need those features?
there are crossovers for when you just want to look wealthy and also love tall and bloated cars

Cayennes have always been really good at off roading, some of them even came with 6 speed manuals

Crossovers are tiny as shit inside, at least with an SUV you get 3rd row seating
If you live in Australia or Asia; Land Cruiser 70-series
Otherwise, there aren't many. Land Rover Defender (I know, I know), Mitsubishi Pajero (still a bit heavy and all that, but does alright), Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J150 and Toyota Land Cruiser J200 are both capable, but a bit more expensive than the Pajero, and also a tad "modern"
Not sure what you think about the Wrangler, but its still quite capable
Now, for the shocking truth - old SUVs weren't much better. Put a 70-series against a J200 Land Cruiser, give them both the same tires, rear locking diffs and see how it goes
The J200 will quite likely do better on account of traction control, different driving modes and such things, BUT there would most likely be more damage to the J200 because the body sits a tiny bit lower, and because it has more fragile plastic parts
A lot of these old SUVs weren't what you'd call affordable when they were new - they are now because they are usually quite well built, and keep their value well, making people take care of them

You'd be hard pressed to find a better stock off roader than a wrangler rubicon

Starts at $60k which isn't much more than an MDX

I ask myself the same question every time a huge SUV/Crossover with a single woman inside blocks my view when im trying to make a turn.

nah m8 you gotta get the uaz if you want to go off-roading

>Put a 70-series against a J200 Land Cruiser, give them both the same tires, rear locking diffs and see how it goes
J200 is like 700kg heavier, so I'm not sure if its modern bells and whistles can compensate for that.

The Tahoe, 4runner or the Jeep Cherokee's are the only real and true 4x4 SUV's left. Everything else is haldex awd on 20 series tires and designed to sit outside Starbucks. I hope $50k is affordable enough.
TRD pro 4Runner Is easily one of the most livable, and capable, body on frame SUV. It's got a manual transfer case, a v6 with hefty towing capacity, ground clearence to the moon, and rear locking differential. It's one of the last true body on frame, capable, and usable SUV's on the market. It's reliable, it's resale value is amazing. And you can raise a family with it.
Lol MSRP is ~40k but have fun finding a dealer that won't upcharge 5k cuz "muh availability"

Diff locks > traction control
One is used in heavy equipment the other is not

Warlord niggers in africa like them.
>Only two posts mentioning 4runners
Get a 4runner. If it's an older one just make sure that you get the balljoints replaced, because if they're original parts they're liable to fail at literally any time.

Depends where you live. It's almost pointless trying to find a good one anywhere with rust.
First and Second gens are run fine but the frames are body are literally 90% rust. Turd gens are also rusty as shit and most have 400k miles.... for $10k. Skip the the modern 4runners and you got a 260hp suv for $50k. Meh.
