90s Mazda protege is nice i have 200k miles and only had a problem with the timing belt but change oil every 3000 miles and drive on the highway most of the time

If you are in the US insurance on most bikes is less than cars. They also make studded tires for snow and ice for them. If I commuted in a snowy environment I would get an adventure bike. If you're only comfortable with 4 wheels then stay with that.
