Texan here, i have never in my life had a truck ever even come close to keeping up to me from a dig, high power diesel exist but anyone with enough money to own one were i live all work for petrol companies and live in suburbs, and everyone that wants one thinks they can put a chip tuner and so injectors to keep up... torque might make you feel like you're going fast but unless to completely redo the fule system and induction system they will fall flat on their face when second gear come around.. not to mention all the reinforcement because a diesel is only reliable with the boost turned down, those blocks will destroy themselves if you're not smart.

my friend has a 2005 Cummins that makes about 1250hp, it's a 4wd automatic crew cab that he drives year round and tows his track car with in an enclosed trailer. it gets like 18mpg if he's not pounding on it. and it's got a torque converter lockup switch hidden by the steering column, he can lock it in second gear and do rolling burnouts for literally a quarter mile at a time or more. that's pretty much what he built it for.

the only thing he really spent money on were the turbos, manifold, trans, fuel pumps and injectors. it's still his stock 5.9 common rail head with upgraded lifters, over 200k on it, and a 6.7 bottom end he bought used with 140k on it. it's been like that since summer of 2014 and the only thing he's replaced are u-joints. he gets good fuel economy when he's driving normally because like I said, the injectors are setup properly so it's not over-fueling all the time.

As a Texan who hates brotrucks, this is real and very possible. Stock 8,000 pound Silverado do 0-60 in 7ish, when you triple the horsepower and torque then you can easily run down a corvette.
