What transmission is best used when swapping a Gs300 to manual?

R154? W58?

I found an '01 Lexus GS300 for sale in my city.

Its a lil beat but runs and the owner is selling it for $1k firm.

I'm thinking about taking it in a project car and turning it into a fun lil drift car for the track instead of trying to buy a rusty/beat to shit 240sx.

It'll be a project, since it didn't come factory manual like the IS or SC. The R154 is most common since the W58 costs a fuckton. You'll need the money for the misc parts to get to work. Besides a handbrake lever and a clutch system, you need to get a custom driveshaft and an adapter plate. The automagic sits just a bit too far forward for it to be as easy as dropping in the manual. The shifter for a manual ends up being below the radio, so you have to get an adapter made.

Again, it's not that bad, but it's a project.
