Only buy a 944 if you hate yourself. I'm changing my clutch now, which requires the exhaust from the headers, the torque tube, and the transmission to come out just to get to the bellhousing. Everything is so close together and the bolts are so rusted that everything is breaking.
Basically the same in every other car except saabs so don't beat yourself up too much about it

I mean, I've changed the clutch in quite a few other cars, though they've all been front transmission and not nearly this hard. The rear transmission makes everything shit.

What the hell happened at Porsche design when this thing was on the drafting table?
928 group: We'll put the engine and clutch in front, the transaxle in the rear and connect with a torque tube.
944 group: Me too!
928 group: We'll put a slip coupling in the torque tube so clutch jobs are a cinch.
944 group: We'll make them disassemble the transaxle.

That's pretty spot on. I can't say that I've worked on a 928, but they seem infinitely easier to work on than the 944.
Subaru (Non Turbo) isn't too bad to do a clutch on.
Drop exhaust (6 bolts)
Drop Prop Shaft
Undo belhousing bolts
Undo trans mounts and support with jack
Move tranny back as far as possible, tilt engine forward.
Swap clutch... reverse process.
Why a shop charges 6 hours labour for a 2 hour job I'll never know.

In my car, it takes a shop anywhere from 10 to 15 hours and they certainly charge an arm and a leg. That's why I do this shit myself.

It's a Porsche, they gotta do it in a clean room with latex gloves on, and label each part individually.
>>17496038
Or do it in a messy ass garage with barely enough space to move around the car. That works too.
>>17496105
Does it have the V8 moder?
>>17496119
I wish. No, it's totally stock.
>>17496133
I thought you could get a 944 with a V8?
>>17496142
na 4cyl or turbo 4cyl, thats it.
>>17496142
That's the 928 you're thinking of, though people do LS swap these cars occasionally
>>17495827
The 944 was an evolution of the 924, which was designed in collaboration with VW and started out using many VW parts. This included an Audi transaxle.

Come talk to me when you do a timing belt and water pump on a Ford Probe GT / Mazda MX6 LS and any other member of the Mazda KL family.
That shit is child's play compared to what I'm doing today
