>Semi automatic transmission
WTF is this supposed to mean?
What kind of transmission is this?
a semi automatic one
Manual requires you to clutch and change gear.
Automatic does it all on its own.
Semi-automatic requires you to change gear but "clutches" for you. Most automatics have a "manual" mode which is in fact a semi-automatic mode. The one with the UP and DOWN or + and -.

Wait
This isn't a meme, this is a real transmission?
So they have those still available today or these are legacy?

I'm under the impression that more and more cars nowadays feature double clutch paddle shift which would be a form of semi-automatic transmission. Traditionally they've been relatively unpopular because they've been as sluggish as automatics which also offered "manual" options.

Currently there are two types out now, Triptronic style which is essentially a traditional torque converter type Automatic transmission with a manual shift mode, and Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) Type which is some what similar to a traditional manual except it uses two clutch plates with one clutch plate for gears 1,3,5 and another For 2,4, and 6
The down side to both is that they're heavier than the older transmissions, and produce more heat during operation, as well as more complex.
Older DCT's had issues where the clutch plates would need changing sooner than a traditional manual.
There are some cars on the market have automated single clutch transmissions, I believe one of the recent Lambo's have one.

if the only definiton of a semi-auto trans is "you change gears, but it clutches for you" then you could say a Jerico clutchless manual is semi-automatic

Literally every fucking modern car has the + or - on the shufter nowadays

I don't drive a modern car

other cars with automated single clutch manuals: e46 m3, ferrari 360, toyota mr2 (wtf?)

So why do you give a shit? If you can't be bothered to keep up with modern shitbox technology then why keep up with transmission tech?

A lot of "Automatics" in semi trucks are just manual transmissions that have an computerized shifter attached.
The internals of the transmission are the same as a regular manual, it just uses solenoids or whatever to work the shift for the driver.
