I've been wanting a Land Cruiser for a little while now, and I think I might finally have the opportunity to get one. Someone wants to trade me an early 00s Land Cruiser for my DRZ400. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but the guy says it's really clean, has no known issues, no rust, clean title, and 113k on it. I'm a little bit nervous because he wants to trade down. Land Cruisers around here in that condition usually go close to 10k, where a clean DRZ will go for around 4k.

Does this seem odd? And if I do go check it out, are there any common issues to look out for?

yes that does seem incredibly odd desu.
have a mechanic check it out beforehand if you dont know what youre looking at.
rust is the biggest thing to watch out for, but make sure the timing belt has been done (should have been done at 90k)
check the steering rack as those usually need to be replaced at some point.
other than that though they are almost completely bullet proof. stay on top of maintenance and you should have no problem hitting 500k (as these things do regularly)

Man, that will destroy fuel. The offer does sound odd since you can probably just flip it immediately for 7k or 8k. Maybe he doesn't know the worth of the thing. Worst case situation, you sell it for $6k as a "project vehicle"
and then buy a fully functioning suburban with it
Maintenance is all doable by yourself and you always have a lot of workable space under there. Fixed all my shit meself except for the hard to weld parts and that A/C recharge.

2UZ timing belts are good way past 90k. Basically the only thing that kills them is getting some sort of fluid on them. Rule of thumb is when the water pump starts weeping, change the timing belt and water pump.

Do you know how a lot of trapfags are formed? They're usually lolicons or dudes who have a large bias towards petite girls, and a lot of them accidentally stumble upon a trap in a doujin, or a nukige, or whatever. Of course, they don't know it's a dude until the time of dicking arrives, and by then they're already invested into that character to the point where they stop caring. It gets normalized for them - after all, it looks, talks, and acts like a girl; it just happens to have a dick. "I'll just pretend I didn't see that penis," they say, as they increasingly become less horrified by the prospect of bopping the weasel. "Oh, that bulge protruding from the panties? It's just a puffy vulva," and so on. And do you know what happens when that reach that H-scene and start pounding the brisket? They cum buckets. Why? Because it's different. It's new. It's a feeling they haven't felt before in the ever-increasing-monotony that is their habitual masturbation; and thus, in an attempt to reproduce that excitement once again, a trapfag is born.

I guarantee you a few people who read Maggot Baits for "fun," or some sense of endurance-testing themselves will likely come out being far less offended by guro than when they first went in. They might even develop a fetish for it.

repairs on a 200, though. also damn that gas. just get a suburban / land cruiser / patrol. if you're in salt area, get it imported from europe. then do an engine swap with something diesel so you have less of an idling gas consumption and you can do a full electric shutoff in case of river or swamp crossings.

if you get the old german I5s / I6s, you can carry vegetable fuel as both cooking fodder and engine fuel.

Speaking of which
>>17472244
I'm seriously considering finding an OM647 or OM612 for my Land Cruiser. Maybe the I-6 equivalent instead but who knows.

>>
>>17471775
A conversion from quigley runs like $13k. Then you need wheels, camper shit etc. All in all, even buying a cheaper van, you're looking at $30k all in with all the bullshit and maintenance etc. I have an e250 camper van. The only thing left is a 4x4 conversion, and I'm $15k in already (solar panels, lift kit, LED lights, wheels and tires, paint job since mine was shitty, maintenance etc.) I still don't have bumpers ($2k each), a ladder, I built my own roof rack from aluminum (they run like $2g) etc.
>>
>>17472433
What's the MPG (highway/city) and GPH (idling) fuel consumption of those E-250s? How heavy are they once you add everything together?

Also, roof rack from aluminium sounds like a great idea. I want one of those for my LC but have it incorporated into a roll cage so it's within the walls of the body.

The fabricators around my place do bumpers for $1250 CAD each and a roof rack for the same price. If you get it done together, they normally give you like 25% off simply because of the measurement and joint work in making them at the same time.

What solar panels did you use and how did you do a dual battery? I just got myself a deep cycle I want to hook up to the starter.
>>
>>17472464
Fuel is shit. Probably 12mpg at best when not loaded down. Honestly after removing all the factory shit in the back, it's probably about the same. The factory bench seat weighs more than my bed. And the cabinets I have are very light. I put wood floors in it and removed the heavy rubber ones. All in all it's probably about the same, but I have massively upgraded suspension. I am toying with putting a lightning motor in the van for more towing power. The brakes are fucking garbage though. Gotta upgrade to e450 brakes.

I designed and cut all my own aluminum to save a ton of money. I'm maybe $200 into material (it covers 75% of the roof and can hold 4 solar panels and an extra space for coolers etc) and I had a buddy weld it up for $150.

I use windynation (windycity? I forget) kit with 3 (soon to be 5) deep cycles. An inverter. And a regulator. I run an AC for my dog when I take him so it requires a lot more juice (I have it vented through the floor). But remove the AC and you can run a fridge, LED lights, a TV, and charge your shit, and a cooker top on like 2-3 batteries easy. I ran the fridge in shade for 2 days and didn't even see a drop in battery charge.

engine swap it, senpai. toss in an OM647/648 or something and get double your fuel mileage. you can find bench seats out of another vehicle if you want to put them in. Something out of like a suburban or any large SUV at the junkyard and make bolting adapters

anyway, i bet that would save a lot of moneys on making that stuff. i can barely weld steel let alone aluminium, lol.

windynation solar panels, yeah. windy city is chicago's nickname, lol. but yeah, the a/c vented through the floor is a good idea - was just gonna ask about how you rigged up your A/C to run while idling. i thought of a method to hook up a fan to blow out the hot air but that was too convoluted

Where did you get the deep cycle battery adapter kit? are they automatically detatched or do you need to manually adjust it every time you start it up / move it around to charge it? I want more info on this pls I've got to hook up extra battery power since it keeps dying innawoods.

If you have the space under the hood, you can buy some cast iron kits for the engine bay that wraps about the exhaust manifold. You can then put tendies or cookies in there and use it as a makeshift oven on road trips. I would stick to pre-fabricated ones for your engine type because the thickness of the metal determines the temperature of the "oven"
>>
>>17472530
Do you keep them separate from the starter battery (is that deep cycle or normal?)
>>
>>17472540
I don't need seats. I have a couch, a bed, and a cabinet. I don't waste any fuel idling. I figured out the usage for the whole system and designed the charge and batteries on that. I picked all my products out THEN built the kit around it. You don't need to do anything special. You hook up your solar panels, reducing them down to one positive and one negative wire. Connect that to a solar regulator. The regulator connects to the batteries. The batteries to an inverter. You can easily run the battery cables to the starter if you want. I kept the engine battery just to be safe (don't want to get caught with dead deep cycles and not start the car). You can charge the deep cycles off the alternator if you want too (I recommend a second alternator to do that). I can also use the solar batteries to jump the car battery if it happens to die.
>>

>>17472567
I keep them separate. I don't want one failure to fuck me twice. Having two separate systems gives me options.

Yeah, I'd have to upgrade the alternator which I really don't want to do [yet] or get a weird bolt-in kit for like $750 to hook those systems up to 2+ deep cycles. I guess that saves a lot of effort and money to have them charging with a solar panels instead of residual engine battery charges. The problem here is we have very shady winters for like 3 months so I don't think it'd be as practical. Are you innadesert or more south?

I saved this thing a while back PT1 on a setup so it might be help to you if you ever want to connect them full time to your starter battery.

Also regarding the solar panels, do you plan on putting a roof top tent on the things or are you just going to keep it as full time solar panels?
>>
>>17472597
I'm in Texas so sun isn't a big problem. And I don't cover anything, that's what the regulator is for. It kills charge when batteries are full or if it sense too much draw. The solar system can ALSO be used with an alternator. You can wire in a switch. However, it throws too much amperage and it doesn't step charge like you should a deep cycle. It's not going to blow up, but it's not good for the batteries. It's better to just use solar. You can also get a small generator to charge the deep cycles in the event of no sun. I had a wire come loose on a river trip and used my buddies quiet honda generator to top off my batteries until I got home.

god damn it. should've asked that in the beginning.
yeah charging 3-5 deep cycles with solar panels would only be practical for 4 of the 12 months up in Canuckistan, unfortunately.

Back to the dual battery setup, j'suppose.

What kind of draw are you getting from your solar panel / deep cycle? Enough to power a fridge so you should be able to get 150Amp to power an air compressor / impact airgun? Or would that be what the generator is for?

Are there any alternatives to a wrangler in terms of buying a new car? I currently drive an XJ and I'm worried it may be on its last legs. Before I put new car money into making her ride like new, I decided to look at the options..

holy FUCK, was I disappointed. You can't find an SUV that's no longer than 175" with ample clearance and more than 160hp. There's nothing sport or utility about them. And to top it all off, they don't make 4x4 except on pickups and wranglers. It's the 'comparable' AWD

Can anyone give me guidance? Do i just keep buying used 90s SUV's?

2.) Taco TRD any year. Rear locker front LSD. IFS just like the zr2
3.) hummer h3. Rear locker front LSD, chromoly CV shafts (of all things)
4.) 4Runner any gen (same as taco)
5.) z71 chevy. Little bit extra lift, better shocks, clinometer and hill descent, front and rear LSD
6.) Ford Raptor. Basically a Baja truck with a ford badge
7.) Ram rebel/power wagon. Rear LSD, adjustable coilovers, 4" factory lift, 12k winch from the factory

>Sorry anon offroad is neglected by today's automakers

That's what you've got to love about not having planned obsolescence, I'm sure the offroad vehicle market was pretty much saturated in the late 90s to early 2000s and we've just been trading around the same older trucks and SUVs since then since it's not like they're clapped out at 10-15 years like with passenger cars.

Because of that automakers have realized that passenger cars have a much higher turnover rate and have stopped producing cheap offroading vehicles in lieu of making a fuckhuge SUV for Stacy to take her kids to school in since there's more profit to be made, however there is hope, we should reach a point when all of the older vehicles start becoming unrepairable in the next 10-20 years and the market for cheap minimalist offroad vehicles should start to grow again, although that could very well depend on if the CARB regulations get repealed in the next four years.

Not really. The heater core was kind of a cunt, but really only took a few hours to do. Other than that it's just been fluid changes, plugs, belt, air filter, brakes front and back, and a steering damper. But I make light of all that because I was a technician for ~13 years before I decided to change professions. In general though, cooling system can be a real faggot on XJs. Just replace everything at once to save trouble, if you plan to keep it. And if you do that, flush the ever loving fuck out of the block before installing your new hoses, radiator, and heater core. N180s and J100s are tow rated for 5000 and 6500 lbs, respectively. Will i really not be able to tow a 2000lb camper with these vehicles?
>>
>>17484609
>2000lb
>heavy
The fuck are you smoking, and where can I get some? Even the lightest-duty flatbeds can weigh up to 3500lbs loaded (hazard fraught 4x8s don't count, they're too small to be useful for anything)
>>
>>17484982
You'll be fine, he just doesn't understand how little weight 2000lbs really is.
>>
>>17484599
Having tasted that dumpster water, I'd say that's commendable.
>>
>>17484982
>>17484990

Payload weight detracts from tow capability at a rate of 0.5:1. Vehicle manufacturers rate their tow capability based on a completely stock, empty vehicle with a single occupant. Consider food and supplies for a 3 day camping trip, jerry cans, aftermarket mods (bumper, winch, rock sliders/steps, spare tire), oversized tires, modified suspension, multiple passengers and the weight of whatever is in your trailer (assuming your EMPTY trailer weighs 1 ton) and youre looking at more like a 1.5-2k lb tow capacity on level ground. Uphill or offroad will drop your tow capacity by a factor of Gravity times the grade of the slope you are on, and double it if a trailer tire leaves the ground.

This is why you see broken axle shafts on 3/4 ton pickups hauling small trailers on difficult trails.

>replace front speakers on 2 door XJ
>right speaker doesn't work unless it grounds itself on the metal (which shorts the radio)
>Speaker works fine otherwise
>try fiddling with the wires in the door, don't see any kinks or breaks
>if I let it rest on the door frame JUST right it will work fine
>figure maybe it's a loose wire on the radio end
>pull radio (shockingly easy)
>see this

Im almost positive this isn't what stock XJ wiring looks like. Why do people feel the need to nigger rig shit like this? I'm not even sure what half of this shit is for.

At least it looks like they TRIED to use a harness of some kind
>>
>>17485681
Pretty sure you've got that a little backwards. He's talking about towing on-road, not offroad. a 2000lb trailer, properly loaded, should only be ~200lbs tongue weight, which is the part that counts against vehicle payload. A near-stock Land Cruiser is not going to exceed payload with only 200lbs on the tongue. Even if you assume the LC is carrying ~900lbs in gear, which I'm sure we all know is insane, you're still looking at a minimum tow capacity, per your conversion factor, of 3200lbs, which is more than adequate to handle a 2000lb trailer.

jokes on you, I'm black (enough to count, anyway). PO was some white kid in his early 20s. he had to get rid of it because his GF wouldn't let him have it anymore (you dont need that we're have a baby now bla bla bla)

Could be worse... The previous owner wired the power for Murphy's radio into the dashboard lights. If I turn off the headlights or dim the dash, then there goes the radio... and all the presets.

Speaking of which I really should fix that one of these days...

I don't know too much on it either. Nobody I talk to has a SSB, and since the regular channels are pretty dead up here its not worth it for me. I agree... Ham is better regardless

Actually closer to Killorglin then to Killarney.
Don't know why they want to kill either Arney or Orglin but I'm trying to avoid a fist fight as it looks like the Irish are brought up boxing & street fighting.
Rented a nice little house here. Staying another week.

Somebody please flip me upright.

BTW, here in Killorglin, every year the towns people capture a male goat (called a "Puck") declare him King and parade him through town.
I'm told more than 100,000 people show up to celebrate "King Puck."
The town is so small that 300 would be a massive crowd.
I'm sure they probably kill him in the end.

The water pump weeping isn't enough fluid to get on the timing belt, so it's fine. Just a good indicator of both water pump and timing belt being ready to get switched out. It's pretty common to see 4th gen 4Runners and 100 series Cruisers with 150k on the original timing belt.
