Yesterday I drove into a ditch going about 50 mph and smacked the bottom of my 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 and the crankshaft heater unplugged I know that but will that cause the engine light to flash? The truck doesn't have any cosmetic damage and it seems to run a little rough now what could be the problem?
Pls help
CHECK
YOUR
OIL
PAN

And what would that do sorry I'm kind of car illiterate

Stop driving it, if the MIL is flashing. Get it towed somewhere and get it scanned.
>>17450210
You're telling me you know what a crankshaft heater is, and not an oil pan?
>>17450240
My dad told me. But he's at work
>>17450342
It's referred to as a block heater, so you obviously live up north where it gets cold. Anyway, like >>17450236 said if the check engine light/malfunction indication lamp is flashing that means shit is really wrong and stop driving immediately.
>>17450361
Will the engine light flash if it's unplugged?
>>17450092
Broken engines looks amazingly similar to running engines, OP. There's not enough to go on to tell you anything other than the ECU is deeply unhappy and you should really find out why it is so.

I drove it home about 15 miles after I had the accident it seemed to run a little rough but accelerated fine. Did I just destroy my truck?
>>17450389
You mean the block heater unplugged?
>>17450413
Depends, was the oil light on as well?
>>17450413
Not yet obviously. You certainly haven't done it any favors though.
>>17450424
I didn't realize it was unplugged until I got home.
>>17450424
Oh and no the oil light is not on
>>17450453
>Oh and no the oil light is not on
That's good. Judging by your story thought maybe you smashed your oil pan and messed up the pick up for the oil pump. The block heater(unless factory option) shouldn't throw a code though.
CEL isn't the end of the world. Get a scanner and check it

I think you missed the point that the CEL was flashing. That flashing light is warning you that the catalytic converter is being damaged.

A solid engine light means something WAS wrong, A flashing light usually means that shits happening now.
Is OP sure he didn't rip out the block heater completely and loose all his coolant?
>>17451494
I'm not sure I have to wait until my dad gets home because he knows these things I just thought I could ask here and show him that I'm not useless
