Now that the Camaro has completely embarrassed the Mustang in performance, will Ford finally be forced to make the Mustang small again? Pony cars are supposed to be small, and the 6th gen is too fucking fat.
>>
Nobody cares bro. I am a Camaro super fan but ford doesn't care that it out performs the mustang. They still sell more mustangs. Even so, the 2018 mustang will have several performance upgrades. Camaro is the better performance car, mustang is still the better selling product.
>>
curb weight of the mid 90's mustang was around 3400lbs, 05 mustang is ~3500lbs, 2017 is 3700lbs.

You're right they are heavier now than recent history but they haven't been below 3000lbs for a very very long time. They stopped being pony cars a long time ago.

I'm not so sure. The last Mustang was faster than the last Camaro (sans maybe the Z/28), so they probably just underestimated how much of an improvement the 6th gen Camaro would be. The GT350R shows they do care about making a serious performance car, so I imagine Ford will try and take the 7th generation seriously. I'm just hoping they make a lighter and smaller chassis instead of the doing what Dodge does (DOOD 848 HORSEPOWER LMAO).

3400lbs with a V8 and modern safety equipment wouldn't be bad at all, it's a big improvement on 3700.

3000lbs + V8 + affordable + safe is just unrealistic.
>>
Ford doesn't need to do anything, fanboys will still buy it and defend it.

Mustangs were always trashed compared to Camaros when it came to performance, nothing has changed.

>They still sell more mustangs
Camaro sales have been slipping these past few years. The Challenger is getting ever so close to surpassing the Camaro as the 2nd best selling sports car in the US.

I would love to own a Tussy mustang.

Imagine when boomers say "hurr that ain't a real mustang color" and you can in fact show them that indeed it is, a 1 of 3 Tussy pink mustang!
>>
I'm glad the Camaro is faster, personally- it motivates Ford to try and keep up.

Remember how the Mustang stagnated performance-wise in the absence of the Camaro?

All cars are fucking enormous now. There's no going back.
>>
JUST MAKE IT A FUCKING LIFTBACK
>>
>>17433623
Smaller footprint and lift back is what it needs.

I don't care about weight or power to be honest. Not a whole lot of people who buy mustangs track or even drive them hard, so a more practical sports car would be pretty sweet.

I wonder if separating the rear deck from the chassis would affect stiffness at all.

If they went as far as adding a liftback, it'd be pretty sick to see a shooting brake option while they're at it- though I supposed I'd expect to see that from Dodge before Ford or GM.

And a Miata is already base Mustang GT price in Canada

The Camaro has ALWAYS completely embarrassed the Mustang in performance...

Remember that time a Mustang beat a Camaro around Bathurst?
Yeah...
Me Neither.
