Aye, I'm thinking about buying a Nissan skyline in the near future. My question is: is there a "huge" differnce between the GTS-T and the GTR? I know that the GTR as all wheel drive and some other nimble features. It's really hard to find a GTR in my price range that is in good enough condition. I have found a few stock GTS-Ts that are in my price range. Should I wait on a good deal for the GTR or go with the GTS-T?
>>
GTR
>bigger engine
>all wheel drive
>twin turbo
>better gearbox
>wider body and different bodykit
>different wheels

and probably more
>>
>>17423924
Depends.

If you would also buy a 911 interchangeably just for the performance, get the GTR. The track performance will not let you down, since that's what you're looking for.

If you just want a skyline, get the GTS-t
>>
>>17423931
Do you think it would be possible to make a GTS-T as fast a GTR with aftermarket products? Or would you be limited by the engine?
>>
Wasn't there the Type M that was like the next best thing since the GT-R except it was RWD
>>
>>17423942
There's an episode of best motoring where they make a 380hp GTS-T without an RB26DETT swap. So yes, if you get the parts. I believe the car was put together by AQUA.
>>
>>17423945
Yeah the GTS-Ts that available in my area are both type Ms
>>
>>17423942

I'm sure you'd eventually go as hard as a stock GTR, but they're not exactly mindblowing in todays numbers.

It's like tofu versus a proper japanese curry

Both are going to fill you up, and both come from glorious nippon, but one is cheap and rubbery and crap
And the other is a rich blend of tastes and textures

Also if you buy anything that isn't a GT-R people will assume you are a cheap boiracer
>>
You should probably look at a few skyline dedicated forums before you make that choice. There are quite a few differences between the two. Don't overspend on the car itself and have no money to put into it, and if you buy a clean one please don't ruin it with choppy performance "enhancements".
>>
>>17423998
Yeah if I do end up getting one, I have a friend who works at a performance racing place so he can help point me in the right direction.

Yes. They drive like two completely different cars.

Choosing between the two is kinda dependent on what you want to use the car for.

I'm offering him my opinion from my experience in driving both of them.

I don't daily my GTR in the US, and that shitbox was exactly that, it was rusted out to hell and it was gutted with a welded diff and it was cheap. So of course I used it as a shitbox missile. If it was a clean car I would have daily drove it but I drove a C35 Laurel automatic boat as a daily, and took the GTR and FD out to drive hard on weekends up in the mountains.

Good job on the post, and making assumptions from literally one picture of each car though.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

With enough money, you can make any car faster than another car. The question is, is it worth it? Spending more for a better base platform is your best bet. As >>17423931 said, GT-R > GTS-T. Pic related, my old GT-R.

for about 1500-2000 dollars you can get that rb20 in the gtst to around 250whp. A GTR makes about 260-270whp stock and is a couple hundred pounds heavier. From a dig it wouldn't be as fast as a gtr because rwd vs awd but it would pull just as hard from a roll (or just invest in good, wide tires)

Things needed to cheaply make power on an GTSTs rb20

Rb20 front mount intercooler kit (200 bucks on ebay)
Rb25 s2 turbo (200 bucks)
3in down pipe, straight pipe exhaust custom fabbed (400 bucks at local exhaust shop)
K&N air filter (50 bucks)
Walbro 255lph fuel pump (150 bucks)
Greddy profec II boost controller (200 bucks)
Apexi SAFC (piggy back ecu) (300 bucks)
AFR gauge and sensor (150 bucks)
Dyno tune by a shop who knows what they are doing (300-500)
>>

>>
>>17426693
Dyno tune by a shop that knows what they're doing is the hard part.

Most shops can tune a map pretty okay if your goal is to run it at a race track.

Most shops don't have the first fucking clue about how to tune for true street use. I've seen what these maps look like. They usually don't dial in fuel very precisely so the VE map looks like straight lines instead of smooth curves and they don't bother to tune shit like ignition timing on overrun/part throttle. As a result most tunes drive like utter dogshit on the street and will destroy catalytic converters quickly.

>>
>>17429240
There's being poor and then there's being frugal. For many people, what you get with the gtr simply doesnt justify the price hike.
>>
>>17429688
If you RB26 swap it and do a little bit of suspension and body work to make it look like a GTR it would sell in the US for like $50k. We all know how the skyline fanboys are.
Really though how hard would it be to make this "road legal". Can't you register them as kit cars or something
>>
>>17429710
You can register it as a showcar but you're limited to a few thousand miles of travel a year, or something along those lines.
>>
>>17429710
Why would anyone swap a 26 into it when the 25 NEO exists. Anyone looking to spend that much money wouldn't want a GT with a body kit and GTR badges anyway.

>>17429723
You can't import anything and register it as a show car. To be eligible for that exemption the car has to be a really limited run or have some sort of historical significance.

It just looks like a riced out Honda Prelude or something. R32 has period early 90s styling, r34 has a distinctive aggressive look and is known by most people who played Gran Turismo or watched TFATF, r33 is just bland in my opinion.
>>
>>17429085
>I couldn't afford a GT-R and instead of accepting it I'll just to convince everyone that mine is better.

No one will fault you for buying a GTS-T if you don't act retarded about it. When I was a broke-ass college student I couldn't afford an Integra Type-R so I bought an LS, but I didn't go around trying to convince people that my barely-above-base-model was better.
>>
>>17429245
I live in LA. I've seen the actual maps before. You can't get a good tune in a day. It takes actual OEM engineers a good amount of the development lifecycle to get the stock ECU calibration.

Have you looked at the logs and the map you got or are you just pulling things out of your ass? The litmus test in my experience is whether the tune would pass FTP-75 emissions testing. That's the kind of quality I'm looking for and it is exceptionally rare to see a shop go to those lengths. The ones that do are usually registered importers.

>>17429322
The R35 until the 2017 MY drove like utter dogshit on the street because it was so fucking stiff. Everybody knows this.

>>17429710
No, you can't. It's just not legal until it's 25 years old. The laws are related to import, not registration. You cannot import a car without FMVSS compliance (crash testing + modifications to pass it) until it is 25 years old. The NHTSA will never revisit compliance for the R34 Skylines due to fraud by Motorex. End of story.

>>17429723
No, you can't. It needs to have under 500 made or they will reject your show and display import application immediately.
>>
>>17430137
Did you read my post? I know im a poorfag for getting a gtst. Im not saying the gtst is inherantly better than the gtr. Im saying if youre smart youll avoid the gtr tax and spend that money and build a gtst/gts4 that will outperform the gtr.
>>
>>17430847
I do the tuning. But there are tons of shops that do them. How do you think they tune them? Also, when turning up the power, you sacrifice emissions. DUHHHHH. If you are worrying about passing emissions, that's easy as fuck. We do it all the time. And comparing making small changes to buidling an ecu from scratch is just stupid. I don't honestly think you know what the tuners are doing on the dyno and street.

And most cars we tune are several day tunes. The day tunes are for basic mods. Once you've done 1000000 of them, it's pretty easy to get them done. We see the same mods and same cars all the time. You also use old tunes as a baseline then tweak for the specific car. You're just one of those people that looks for excuses.

>>17423924
>>17423942

If you have to ask these questions you shouldn't own this type of car in my honest opinion, not trying to be disrespectful at all.

Have you considered a new WRX?
>>
>>17431817
I know how they get tuned. I literally looked over their shoulder as they did it. Maybe some tuners are a lot better about how they map things but for racetrack only use only the WOT portions of the map were done properly to find MBT and knock limits.

If passing emissions is so trivial you should get in touch with Sean Morris over at IVI. I'm sure they would love to know because the current process involves remapping the ECU, new injectors, extra precats, and a whole bunch of time and money on FTP testing.

If your idea of a "good tune" is cranking the boost/timings and throwing 10:1 AFRs at the problem try not to talk too much shit.

It was also confiscated and crushed by the Feds

May 31, 2012, the state of Wisconsin ordered that the two models for the 1995 Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 were ordered to be destroyed, after a law in the state of Wisconsin in the USA prevented the ownership of a vehicle that doesn’t have a valid VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), especially for imported vehicles.[1][3][4]

The owner, Justin Beno, also had a second R33 that was crushed as well, due to the fact that he attempted to sell the cars to another person and told them he could get them titled in Florida, unaware the "buyer" was an undercover agent.[3][1][4] Although Beno asked if he could ship the cars to another country, his appeal was denied, and was told he'd be free of charges if he agreed to turn over his Skylines to be crushed and compacted.

They still use the Skyline name in Japan
When they are brought over for the US market, they are branded as Infiniti "luxury" cars
The Infiniti G35, G37, and the Q50 are called Skyline in Japan, however they really have no relation to the Skylines of the 80s and 90s.
>>
>>17433515
They're also called Skylines here in Australia.
>>

>what state do you live in that allows this?

Victoria, its on club plates so im allowed to drive it.

bullshit

Why is America so fucked up?

An undercover agent to crack down on someone selling a skyline? Seriously
>>
>>17427322
I can vouch for this. I lived in FL for a while and knew several guys who had imported cars through them, none of them had gotten a lemon. I don't know how they did it, but they even brought over some R34s and other inelgible nipshit and the cops never hassled those guys

I'm not a big Subaru fan besides the brz.

enjoy your slow wannabe GT-R economy-toaster faggot
>>
>>17436482
>800HP RWD in a platform that weighs the same as its AWD variant
>makes you look like a poorfag that wants to hang with the cool kids

just get an R32 GT-R and pour that money in because at least then people won't realize you're such a faggot
>>
>>17423924
The GTR and the GTS-T are about as far apart as the GTS-T and the 4 door 4pot auto
>>
>>17429459
>Slow for the money
Not here anon, they're probably one of the cheapest ways to go fast in a straight line (only overshadowed by xr6 turbos really) and they decimate as trackday cars.
>>
>>17427259
I want a r33 gtr. I will probably sell my current daily and downgrade to a older truck and get one when they are finally legal here

the retard that buys a GT-T
>>
>>17423924
Yeah, the 26DETT and AWD are pretty big differences. Depends what you want a Skyline for. If you want to rip fat skids, get a GTS-t, if you want something to just be fast as fuck, save up for the GT-R
>>
>>17423931
gtst-4 is awd.
>>
>>17438843
The comparison in this thread is for a GTS-t vs a GT-R tho
>>
>>17438843
This is actually the correct answer tho
>>
>>17438848
so? it's the same thing as a gtst but awd.
>>
>>17438852
So you're talking about two different models?
>>
>>17438085
you can make a gtt/gtst much faster than a gtr with the money you'll save buying one
>>
>>17438853
It's still an option for OP you mong. you get a gtst priced 32 with awd.
>>
>>17438859
Ok. We get it, you know a little about Skylines

Living in Japan, own a 1992 GTS-T I plan on bringing back to the states. Below 3000rpm this thing is gutless. But above that is where the fun is. It's a quick nimble car, Cuzco coil overs, avcr boost controller, mines Ecu, and r32 gtr rims and bonnet. Ask me anything OP
>>
I just saw my first GTS-T today in Vegas.

I say fuck it OP and do it, before I saw one today I thought no, but wow what a cool car.
