When buying a used car is there any value to getting a manufacturer's "pre-owned" vehicle over simply looking from private sellers?

Not unless they're giving you a warranty.

This. Always get them to include at least a 12 month warranty.
Otherwise go elsewhere.

This. CPO is a steal, but a normal used car had better at least come with a warranty.
It's usually a good idea to know all the common fuckups and awshits of the model youre looking for, assume that the used car has all those problems before you buy it, and look at the car before you buy it, so you know what all needs to be done to it.
Essentially, always assume youre gonna have to work on it when youre looking to buy a used car

Even from a CPO?
