it's true, speed is completely relative. When I carpool in my friend's Beemer and we come to an on-ramp, the acceleration to 70 is quiet and effortless. The car feels like it's being held back and that's because it is, we're not even approaching any of its limits.

meanwhile, taking the same on-ramp in my shitbox is an experience akin to being launched aboard the space shuttle, complete with the ever-present chance of the thing violently exploding in a massive fireball. The entire car vibrates harder than your mum's dildo and the engine screams bloody murder as Dave Rogers wails about how he wants to be a space boy over the stereo. The car probably takes a minute to reach 60 and it would do a lap of the Nurburgring in an hour under perfect conditions, but in the violent ten seconds it takes to clear that on-ramp it feels dangerously fast.
