If you've never done much repair work then you probably shouldn't touch it regardless; German cars are designed with the sole purpose of fucking over mechanics.

In my experience, speciality tools just make the job substantially easier to do correctly in the first attempt minimizing accidental incorrect installations and removals.
If you're determined you can do without speciality tools.
