test rode a street triple today. Good bike that.
Also rode a Z750. Holy fucking shit it's pigfat coming from the Triumph.

Subpar budget soft suspension, budget brakes lacking bite, vibey, unconvincing engine lacking low down grunt and not overly rev happy, vibey, poor finish, looks great unless you get up close, cheap materials, bits of plastic to look like frame and a stone age railroad tie swingarm + 40kg !! heavier than the street triple.

The tires might have something to do with it. Back when I hit the 115 mark I had cheap Shinko 700 dual sport tires that were much less aggressive that the Contis.

I wear glasses in a helmet (Bell RS-1) and it's fine, though kind of a PITA sometimes in wet conditions. Might be worth trying helmets with your glasses on before buying, but lots of helmets are designed to accommodate sunglasses anyway, so it's not that big a deal.

Depends on the bike. An old as fuck MC18 NSR250R? Mechanical exhaust valve restriction to reduce power. MC21 is limited in higher gears by the ignition ECU and just requires fucking with the wiring. MC29 has this bitchcunt swipe card system where the full power card only works with a race harness with no lights or signals.

F4i and 954RR have restricted airboxes, quiet mufflers, a throttle body restrictor, a different ECU mode (that can be wire spliced again anyways), and less aggressive cams.

New CBR1000RR has the same engine configuration as Europe because the emissions and sound restrictions are synchronized so it's just electronically limited to 180kph.

'82 GL1100 and '82 CB750SC.

GL1100 has been flawless, but it as restored by the previous owner.

CB750SC has needed some work, but nothing that wasn't related to sitting for years and then having the carbs re-assembled incorrectly by the previous owner. Nothing that I couldn't do fairly easily in the garage with nothing but a set of metric sockets, wrenches, hex keys, a few screw drivers, and a 4 column manometer.

So I went for a test-ride with the new saddlebags all loaded up and the new cell phone mount. Holy shit the bike seems so much quieter from the seat with the bags between me and the exhaust. At 55 I could barely make out the engine over the wind noise.

Yes, I think so. Unless you get a good deal. The KLR is heavy and has soft fairings. It is water cooled so it is somewhat better in the city and highway. It is however beaten by many bikes off road. Bullet proof engine but not as strong as most others. I guess you would have to see what kind of off roading you are doing.
