Are K&N filters good?
I wanted to put a CAI in muh car but le California laws and I can't be fucked to go through smog bullshit, so I was wondering which air filters are the best for performance.

Don't waste your money on a CAI. They do nothing.
I wouldn't bother with a drop in filter. If leaving the intake stock, stick with paper. Their CAI are good. Whether or not you'll get a check engine light or not depends if your ecu can adjust to the better airflow or not. If it does go off, you will need to have it dyno tuned or tuned from a handheld.

What's the difference between paper and theirs?

Theirs is cotton/fabric filter with an oil additive.
Your engine is going to suck in the same amount of air regardless if its paper or fabric.

Why would he need it tuned? The MAF should just compensate for increased airflow
>>17337410
Most MAF's will compensate when airflow is less than OEM specified, but not above that.

>Califailia
Just kill yourself and be done with it

Are their short rams good? Considering one for a low end torque boost for my Corolla.
>buy a cotton filter
>lets in a bit more air
>lets in dust and dirt
>implying 3hp gains are worth destroying your engine

Paper traps more. The only way the drop in gives gains using the same surface area as the paper is by letting more through, which means it doesn't filter as well.

The factory tune has boundaries, anywhere outside the boundaries it sets off the light. A tuner can reset the boundaries and adjust the engine accordingly.

The cone style has a larger surface area so it can filter just as well and still let in more air. Normal operation you hardly ever do need a filter. If you're driving on dirt roads or it's Dusty in your area all the time then yes I'd say consider sticking with stock.

>make paper cone filter with custom airbox
>???
>more air in
>best filtering
