is gs400guy here?
I have a question regarding gs400/430, is the "lexus reliability" true with this particular car, there's one really close to me for sale with 230k kms and i was wondering if i would be able to afford maintaining it (24 yo part-time working student)

I'm not that faggot you said but I can tell you that no, you won't really be able to.
Not as much for the cost, but because if the downtime. Its one thing to have to pay $230 for a rack and pinion. But installing it yourself on a Tuesday afternoon when you gotta go to class and work the next day is not fun.
But a Fucking civic with low miles and stop trying to be an edgy ricer

stay away from train tracks please
thanks

A stock Lexus is damned near indestructible. Just change the oil and use official parts. I wouldn't buy that riced piece of shit in the pic though.

why would he need to replace rack and pinion? it's a comfy landbarge, not american truck from the 80s
>>17336499
yes you can afford it
they're reliabe af

kek a ZF rack for an A4 is $800. get a life retard
>>17336582
i don't really care about the downtime, i use public transport for uni stuff, the car is more for going back to my home town for the weekend, which consists of 50% highway and some twisty roads going through small villages, mostly 50mph traffic

I don't really see whats wrong with a car getting stuck on tran tracks desu.

They're reliable but repairs are expensive
Parts are costly and doing most things on it aren't DIY friendly
$1400 abs pumps and you need a scan tool to reset it
$800 a piece rear upper control arms which involve shifting the rear subframe to replace
Starter under the intake manifold, not hard but you'll need gaskets and shit while you're in there
Connectors on the harnesses go to shit and while theyre only 10 bucks it can be a bitch to replace
tldr get a shitbox
pic related has been significantly less expensive to restore mechanically
*blocks your path*

yeah, but are those parts you listed prone to failure? or was it just something that came up on your particular car?
>>17336699
maybe i should add that i don't plan on modifying it in any way besides cosmetics and basic maintenance stuff
>>17336699
Brake master cylinder is a common point of failure and comes as an entire unit with computer and all
As for the rear uppers, rubber gets old
Power steering pumps and lines shit the bed too. Lines a bitch to do thankfully I had my engine out at that point. It was also $300
Alternator is just under the power steering so if it leaks you'll go through alternators quite often
Its a good car when everything is new and working optimally otherwise they're pretty beater tier at this point

sigh, i guess you can't expect a car to stay extra reliable after 20 years or so
