Need some help with starter issues

At least I think it's the starter, I have no idea

Last week, I was riding around and stopped at my house for a couple minutes. When I went out to get back on my bike it wouldn't start. All that'd happen when I clicked the start button was a single click would come from the starter relay and that's it. The next day I went to take the bike apart but tried starting it first and it ended up starting up immrfiatekt

Then it ran just fine for a week.

Last night I went riding and stopped somewhere. When I went back to my motorcycle, it wouldn't start again. Same exact problem. I let it sit for like an hour and a half and now it's turning over. It doesn't start, it sounds like the battery is dying, but it's at least trying to start. I checked the battery and it only has 11.75 volts so I'm guessing that's why it's not starting all the way, but that doesn't explain why it wouldn't do anything just a couple hours ago

Does anyone know what the fuck is going on?

Good knobbies really help, and so does a bike that's not 400lbs.
Also try to weight the rear more when ascending hills. Either stand up and lean back or scoot to the rear of the seat.

It's more the set back to change the riding position than the height that counts with rearsets honestly, just that -any- rearset mod will raise the pegs enough to drag the stock exhaust first.

Sup /dbt/, need yalls advice on something. This Ninja right here sat for 3-4 months. The first time I cranked it up, it started but it was running "weak." I revved it a few times and the engine cut out and wouldn't start again.

I went out and bought a fresh battery and was hoping it would start. No luck. It's revving and trying to turn over, but still won't start.

I'm going to try draining the fuel. Some water had seeped into the tank. Would you guys agree this is the next logical step?
>>
>>17335556
You should have put new gas in to begin with.
But if it's not the battery, check fuel, air, spark.
>>
>>17335554
Blue cruiser anon?
You don't have the parts yet?
>>
>>17335562
The fact it started up initially would indicate that the spark plugs are fine, correct?

My friend is telling me it's most likely not the spark plugs. It only has 3000 miles. Changing them seems more difficult than draining the fuel.

What difference does the Euro vs Us PCV maps? I had a euro map set for the stock bike on and switched to a US version for my pipe system and I've noticed my torque and power are lower now. Will switching back to the euro map hurt the bike? I'm using 93+ oct and I'm in Texas if that matters any. Still new to the power commander stuff

>>17335556

I'd say it sounds like bad fuel. Drain and fill with premium. Add some sea foam. You should probably check the air filter anyway just as good maintanence.

Also, could be a bad fuel pump. That would explain why it's not getting fuel. And, of course, don't forget to check the petcock. That would be embarrassing if you spent a week trying to fix it just to find out the fuel is shut off.

Sure, you can kick or bump start the bike and it'll run without a battery. It would be hard on any electronics that the bike has (computer, fuel injection control module, electronic dash displays, etc) because the alternator produces voltage pulses/spikes that the battery usually helps modulate and smooth out. If your bike has carbs and analog gauges then it wouldn't matter.

There are chains for dual sports and adventure bikes. But you don't need them actually, the roads were clear of snow. It was just freezing cold and a shitton of rain.

>If not how do you do it without crashing?

Generally speaking, if you're on a regular bike in the snow you're fucked. You can go very slow, but if you slip, there is no chance to catch her. So basically you avoid it.

Anon with the Ninja 300 here. I just changed the fuel out, got brand new premium in it.

Still won't start. What the fuck. I'm starting to get worried now. It initially started over the weekend, but the engine would cut out when revved.

New battery, new fuel, no start. Now, I siphoned the fuel out, and didn't check the fuel lines. Could there be moisture in the lines preventing it from starting? This is driving me nuts.

Sea foam is the best cleaner/treatment/additive you can use.

It really sounds like the problem is that you aren't getting any fuel. It idled over the weekend with what was in the system and now that it's gone it isn't getting more.

Possible causes:
-clogged fuel line (probably unlikely)
-bad fuel pump (maybe)
-flown fuse for fuel pump (maybe, easy to fix)

Check that fuse first. If that is good, you'll have to disconnect a fuel line somewhere and see if fuel is actually being pumped when you crank it.
>>
>>17336051
Sounds like you have a short circuit somewhere that's draining the battery and enough juice to prevent the engine from starting.

its a classic 250 two-stroke racing replica, it makes a shitload of power for its weight and displacement due to that, there is a LOT of maintenance required to keep it running since its meant to be ridden hard.

its like getting something like a shelby cobra as a first car. You can do it but its not very smart.

you could get something like a zephyr or any other 90s "retro" bike.

They look and work like the real 70s/80s ones except better and safer.

you shouldnt underestimate how wobbly those old frames and suspension are and how bad the brakes.
>>
>>17336387
That does look kinda cool, it might break the 1200 limit though, but I can save for a little more. Is it a given that an older bike, at some point, cannot be refurbished? Like I said, I'm not a total noob when it comes to rebuilding or even fabricating and welding, I'd just have to haul it to my dad's garage and work on it for a while, but it's not like I'm going to go to the junkyard and buy the first piece of scrap I see.

What else fits the 90s retro thing?

Got the Ninja 300 running! Woohoo! I'm ecstatic. I'm so glad I didn't have to bring it into the shop. It wasn't the sparkplugs. Fuel in the line. I primed the fuck out of it and pinned the throttle when I started it and it eventually came to life. I tell ya, these Jap bikes are nearly indestructible. Nearly four months of bad weather and it took just a little love to get it going.
>>
>>17336412
you should be able to get an air-cooled 90s UJM for the same price or cheaper than a 70s/80s one but you will sink more money and time into the older one and get less favorable results.

Thats just how it is.

From the top of my head:

Honda has been putting out CBs since they started and they havent stopped to this day.

Kawasaki had the Zephyr, ZRX, W650

Yamaha has shit like the XJR

Why do you corner without knowing whether there are cars coming towards you AND why did you come out of the corner so early?

What are they supposed to be for? Looks like they go into the fuel tank, but why??
>>
>>17336024
Even with max choke?
>>
>>17336889
I know there are no cars coming because I can see into the corner far enough. It is not very aparent on video, but you can easily see through the trees, and just a bit before the video starts can actually see the road further to the right.
Secondly, I came out of the corner early because the rear wheel lost traction because of sand, therefore had to close the throttle slowly such that the rear wheel regains traction, but which also causes the bike to stand up thus forcing me to the outside.
>>17336901
>What are they supposed to be for?
They end up on top of the crankcase cover, but in practice they really have no purpose. I think the cooling effect would be negligible.

They are, but they lead to the crankcase cover. Technically they could be considered for cooling, but I dont think they contribute anything significant to a liquid cooled bike. Also, the air doesnt reach the air intake for sure, which is somewhere under the seat.

>>
>>17335400
Not too bad. Bikes that heavy are a handfull. You did well. But, you fell for the 'dont go through the puddle' jew.

When everything is wet and slimey and you straddle puddles, the front end will want to squirm into the puddle potentially taking you down. On a lighter bike with better tires it's less of a problem. Try going straight through the puddle with some rear end biased authority and find your stability in the dry on the other side. With big bikes pretend your a jeep without traction, as opposed to a stadium truck. Chuggin and pluggin. As long as the puddle isn't too long or deep, this can be your best bet.

Go WOT because your harley can't really make enough power to keep itself at traffic speeds unless you do. Make sure if it overheats you slow down a bit, but don't stop otherwise it'll piss oil all over.

Cut off as many cars as possible. It's a well known fact that the more cars you cut off, the safer you are as they can't do anything once they're behind you. You're not gonna get merged into by a car behind you.

Also it's generally accepted that motorcycle riders on the highway try to give eachother a "what's up!" pat on the ass when passing by.

First replace your love of love live with fanboyism for idolmaster. Classic authentic japaenese pop culture improves riding skills by making you more japanese and therefore lighter, more aerodynamic, and more focused on the task at hand. Commercial seiyuu whoring with a terribad accessory anime decreases it by making you a generic fat tumblr weeb that can't corner without daydreaming about shipping biwheeldrive blinkerfluid nicos with manual transmission makis.

Second buy the rearsets and exhaust if it's cheaper than new bike + turnaround from selling your current one or more ideal because you can only have one bike and adjustable rearsets are the bomb for that, if not buy a sportier bike.

Three, your bike is fucking slow.

Your tastelessness makes me wish we weren't both middle class. If I were going to blow that much on a weekend toy I would supercharge a panigale.

But I won't because I'd rather save for retirement and maintain a better day to day image. Every dollar not spent on motorcycle excess is a dollar spent on making the rest of your life even better.

Also wanna bet you have troubles with the running costs of that bike and took out loans to pay for the work?

Most people don't travel that far on their bikes here, whatever one should need for a day trip should fit in a back pack. The people that do, buy touring bikes.

And I'm not sure what you mean by "blacking" out everything other than shit bikes that have a ton of black spray paint on them to cover up lay downs.

sorry I'm not familiar with US prices but here (australia) for ~$4-6k you'll only find 125-300 size bikes which pretty much only new riders buy and as a new rider you should just get a cheap used bike and spend the rest on tyres and fuel and ride the shit out of it without worrying about keeping it pristine for resale value.
Unless you can easily afford it I wouldn't buy a bike new unless you're going to keep it for a long time and just about everyone moves on from their 250 road bike in a year if that

quick question about the risk involved in this.
lowsided the other day at an interesction, bikes parked at the gas station near it atm, small hole in stator cover now and lost a little oil from it, what are the chances of me being able to ride it 2km's to my friends house without damaging anything. (would push it there but its a bit too hilly to get there). and what are the chances of some temporary fix such as duct tape to cover the small hole, as far as I'm aware the stator cover isn't pressurized for oil so i feel like it might not be so bad. new cover is coming in the mail but the gas station probably will want it gone, told em was picking it up the next morning but couldnt (that was yesterday)
