the guy was really nice. He was only selling the car because he has Leukemia and wants to get rid of his estate so his wife doesn't have to do it later.

Manual transmissions can be towed in neutral without a problem.

There are only a couple of cars out there that have manual transmissions with oil pumps, and I'm pretty sure the miata isn't one.

In the rare case that a bearing seized...well, maybe better to happen when you are not in the car.
