Can anyone explain this for me?
I tried starting my car (its a manual) and it wouldnt start it would crank but wouldnt actually turn over or start or whatever. Tested the electric shit by putting a screwdriver in the plug wire and it shocked me so good there. Belts spinned so compression should be good.
Figured it was the fuel pump and went inside to go look at the parts and order one.
Tonight i go and try to start it randomly and it actually starts right up without me changing anything. Can someone explain this for me?
Its a 95 ford ranger 2.3l 4cyl RWD standard cab

Well as you said it clearly has spark and compression. If it ran than it had air, which means the problem likely resides in the fueling system. Check the fuel pump and fuel filter. Could be the pump starting to go out

check your main relay, given the age of the truck it should make a click when you turn the key to "run" and you should hear the fuel pump kick in to prime the system. if not, it's either the relay or pump.

In your fuse box look for the fuel pump relay. Have a friend turn the key to ignition while you listen under the hood

both main relays and fuel pumps tend to die sporadically, working sometimes and not others. if you can't find the issue, either be prepared to drop everything to test the next time it dies or just start throwing parts at it

I believe that is fuel injected. I have a 2000 Ranger 3.0L that sometimes gave me that trouble. Then I learned something, it sometimes floods. To choke the fuel when that happens, hold the gas pedal down while starting. Don't pump, hold it down. Take your foot off the moment it starts because it will rev. So next time it doesn't start on the first try, do what I said.

Fuel injected cars can still flood. Most modern cars have what's called clear flood mode, which is where you hold the gas pedal to the floor when cranking, the engine won't actually start until you let go of the gas.
One car that I can think of off the top of my head that doesn't have clear flood mode is Honda civics

With the Rangers, keep the pedal down till it starts. I've had the truck for years, and it hasn't failed to start once I learned the trick. If I lift the gas pedal before it starts, I have to try to start it again. It doesn't happen often.
