Forgive my ignorance.
1. Would it function well as a daily Driver?
2. My uncle used to have one and said the lights were notorious for getting jammed. Is he right?
3. Are replaxement pieces still common?
>>
>>17302220
1. It's a death trap but gets good gas mileage and is fun to drive.
2. I don't know what "lights getting jammed" means. If you mean the seatbelt light on some of the 2nd gens, its a seatbelt issue, and not a light issue. Otherwise please explain
3. You can get replacement pieces for almost anything and they are generally inexpensive. Trim pieces are harder to find for 2nd gens. If you want a 1G and need replacement parts you'll need a bucket of money.
>>
>>17302264
Death trap? Why do you say that?

The light issue I was referring to the fog lights.

I'm new.
>>
>>17302277
the crx gets insane gas mileage because it is so light. it is light because it has pretty much no safety features at all. It doesn't even have fucking airbags.
>>
>>17302277
It's a 2000lb tin can with no airbags. Still a wonderful car to drive and learn on, though. If you want one but can't find it, try Civics from 1987 to 2000.
>>
>>17302277
Fog lights were a dealer option. Ive never heard of them getting stuck

>Why death trap?
My '85 HF has a kerb weight of 1713 lbs according to wikipedia

My '89 DX has a kerb weight of 2048 lbs

Two of the top selling cars in the USA:

Toyota camry: kerb weight of 3245-3480 lbs

Ford F150: kerb weight of 4051-5238 lbs

The camry is up to twice as heavy and the F150 as as much as 3x heavier. I could run the numbers for you and do a collision simulation but basically you'll die.
>>
>>17302294
Worth it. The chances of getting in a car wreck are pretty low anyway.

I like fbody and fox bodys cause they don't really look like a proper muscle cars. Interiors are shit but the curvy body is lit. But probably youtube some of it. Axle nuts and getting the axle out of there are probably gonna be your biggest issues. If you never took it apart before your gonna really struggle with getting the control arms apart since you need to hammer them on the side to get them to separate, even with the nut off they dont pull out.

oh also dont use the ball joint puller from like auto zone, just hammer it hard and right. The puller will likely just mess up your ball joints.

What's FIBs? Work has been pretty busy, but very rewarding. Haven't had much of online presence recently because of it and also I haven't made any progress on the engine.

Right now I have enough cash to have a machine shop throw the rotating assembly together for me. That's really the only part setting me back. Throwing the head on, swapping over the timing components and everything would take me one day. Then I need another full day to put the new one in, plus probably one day for any set backs I run into. So without a garage here, I need 3 days total back in MN to get this thing done, which might not happen for a while. What I'm thinking about doing is just buying another car and keeping the Si in MN and work on it in bits and pieces over a month or two. That way I can take my time and not fuck shit up, lol.

Other than that, just working on myself mainly - committing to being less /fat/, dating girls, saving money for whatever, playing lots of basketball, shit like that. We still gotta go for that night cruise man, what's your number again? I forgot to save it. I think there's a few other illinois nihgas maybe we could all go for a few rips sometime. It's nice to have my CM5, which is in a much better shape than that CB7 ever was, but I wouldn't be tied down to a 4-year loan if I decided to get another $1k car, but I also wouldn't have gotten the $1,000 value if I hadn't traded the car in, which was hardly worth $200.

Did mine in a '90 hatch in the driveway, not too bad. Worst thing is the axle nuts (had to use a jack and a breaker bar to get them off) and that the transmission is a bit hard to get back on if it's just you. Would recommend bringing a friend and setting aside at least 2 days for the car to be down while you mess up and have to redo things.

I kind of like the exterior of the Toyota but the rear gives me new Civic vibes. Those back door handles are sky high, too.

That should be a very reliable car, though. Uses a similar R series engine that the Civic has been using for a long time until the 10th gen came out.

No more struggling to get into gear is nice. But I have to get used to shifting quick, otherwise the car lurches badly.

I honestly though the revs would drop dramatically faster when coasting, but there seems to be no change or it seems to drop slower even.

I REALLY want a Prelude, 3rd or 2nd gen for those fip up headlights, but I'd prefer a 3rd gen Si with the 4ws.
I've found a few locally on craigslist, all 89's with 200k+ miles on them, but all for $3000 or less. Do yall have any input on the 87-91 preludes that I should know to look out for?

Also, While I'm really wanting a prelude, I think a similar year Accord wouldn't be too bad if I just can't find a good prelude. What kind of difference in terms of performance does an 86-89 North American Accord have compared to a 87-91 North American Prelude?

90-91s are marginally faster, but they come with the price of oil consumption once the FRM rings do their job. 88-89s are slower but more reliable. Avoid the twin-carb 3Gs unless you like misery. Don't get an auto unless you like replacing transmission fluid annually to keep it from slipping.

2Gs are criminally underrated. They can easily go over 350k with the right maintenance. The only real problem is that 5th gear usually breaks on the Si models. Oh, and the engine bay is full of vacuum tubing. I've been looking to buy a clean one for three years to no avail.

after giving it some thought and owning all three; Akaso EK5000, Activeon CX, SJcam SJ4000, I would recommend Akaso EK5000 as my budget nihga dashcam. Power on when plugged in, auto overwrite, cheap, works with gopro and sjcam accessories and easy to use are its strengths. The lower video quality of the interlaced mov, lackluster audio, and sensitivity to heat are its downfalls. Haven't tried smartphone wifi on any, sorry shingu.
For 65$ not including sd card EK5000 wins my budget cam recommendation. Looking to trying the big brother, the EK7000

I only have basic insurance so I'm not reporting anything. I already ordered the parts to fix it.
>>
>>17323168
Never noticed that. She runs ~12.5-13:1 and no cat though so it's not like I would be able to tell a difference
>>
>>17323176
Fuck that sucks, I wouldn't be reporting anything either because i've barely had a license and don't want accidents.

>>17323203
>Catless
Noice.
>>
>>17323233
Honestly I don't care for how loud it is because of the lack of a cat, but since I needed all custom exhaust for my car it was just easier and cheaper not to have one

Don't have emissions or inspection where I live either so it's legal
>>
>>17321808

I clean the inside but I wash mine in the auto no contact spray wash. I get the extreme one with all the waxes and such. It keeps the car cleaner longer afterwards.
>>
>>17323277
Lucky, I'm al about that stock life, but I'd run a straight piped CM5 with no EGR in a heartbeat, makes the whole engine run hotter and it's restrictive as fuck.
>>
>>17323307
It definitely is restrictive. When I was making the maps for my car I had to add a ton more fuel since my exhaust is basically a straight piece of 2.5" tubing all the way back and then into a CM5 muffler.

How much of a power difference is there though? I have no idea
>>
>>17323277
Yonaka recommends running a cat for their exhaust but I really don't mind it at all with a test pipe.
>>
>>17323349
I might gain a few hp but lose a bit of torks, that's why those little ass displacement engines have tight little exhausts to maximize the tork, might even get a little crappier fuel economy because the engine isn't running as hot, but it's great for racing applications.
>>
>>17323364
I just want the quietest setup possible.
>>17323370
How do you gain horsepower but lose torque?
>>
>>17323388
I kind of want to try it with a cat but I don't feel like finding one and bolting it up. As it is I'm way quieter than all the other Hondas that were at that meet I went to.
>>
>>17323388
A lack of back pressure only reduces tork at lower rpms, something about velocity in a tighter exhaust or some shit, but for racing applications with high rpms, you want no back pressure, but a CM5 with a lightweight flywheel, straight exhaust, it gonna drive like shit at the low rpms it normally sees when you're not racing.
>>
>>17323402
I don't even have the ability to hook one up if I wanted to. When I turbo it I need to sit down and figure out how to make it as quiet as possible and also make my power goals.

I'm extremely neurotic about my car being quiet
>>
>>17321687
God damn that looks slick.
I love my 5th gen and it's got me wanting a 3rd gen

When I get a job I want to put some money into my car.

>>17318999

Stock except for cold air intake. If I get a job where I'm applying it'll be mostly gravel roads. Have some stock wheels for a premium, but no tires. Would it be better to buy a set of summer and winter tires for the 16 inch wheels or to buy a set of coilovers?
>>
>>17324756
How long is a piece of string?
>>
>>17324784

As long as you want it to be.
>>
>>17324796
The answer to your questions is that there is no answer because there is no question.

You're comparing apples and orangutans
>>
>>17324803

Will a set of coilovers give me a better ride than stock suspension with the wheels I have? Or will different wheels with bigger tires with stock suspension be better?
>>
>>17324824

Also, anyone in Canada want a set of front skunk2 lowering springs for a civic? Pay the shipping and they're yours.
>>
>>17323777
>>17323789
That roof should turn out good once it's shined up. It's a fun car, you'll enjoy it. I know there's a few guys here that have them. If that bit on the door panel gets too bad there is a aftermarket bit you can put over it that looks pretty stock. Remember that your year doesn't have a low fuel light, there's no ding if you leave your lights on, and no abs.

It looks like it was well taken care of man, that thing is in great shape!

Hey /hg/, I've got an 07 Honda Pilot that is overheating when I idle. The engine remains cool when I'm driving around but when I stop and idle like in traffic or at a stop light the temperature will skyrocket? Any advice?
>>
>>17326369
Check your radiator if it isn't matted with dirt, and turn your AC on and see if both fans are running, also, check that coolant.
>>
>>17324824
>>17324982
The coilovers will be much stiffer than the stock suspension to prevent body roll when cornering. They also keep your body from bottoming out when you lower your car. I have skunk2 adjustables all around on my EM1
>>
>>17326384
I've had issues with the fans on several hondas around that time, it's a simple fix if that's the case.
>>

Fit manual is fun. Like a toy compared to many other cars. Mine is auto unfortunately but still very fun to drive, cheap to maintain, and excellent on fuel economy.

Also, I think it's time to update the collage picture that is about to expire. The 13, 6/17 one.

Okay so I added some coolent (turns out I was almost out of coolent). Car still overheats when I idle. Checked the fuses and swapped the relay and still nothing.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the fan on the left (from the front of the car) should be the one that turns on when the car starts right? Because I think that one is busted. The one on the right works.
>>
>>17327207

The fan shouldn't turn on until the engine gets too hot to cool off. Is your ac always on? That heats it up quite a bit.

Yeah it is. I just forgot about the other two when I was typing that.

unrelated blog:

Orange one had a bouncy tach and broke up at higher RPMs so I took the cap off of the dizzy and the wires off of the ICM. A lot of corrosion so I used some electronics contact cleaner and reassembled. Now it runs awesome and tach works perfectly. It still needs a new brake master and a new owner.

White CRX hasn't changed in a while but I picked up some of the trim I was missing. Don't want to spend a million bucks on parts so it's slow going.

New tires and alignment for the red one tomorrow morning, I'm hyped. I did some aggressive driving this morning and there's a loud bang that happens in the back if you go fast enough over a bump to unload the suspension. Not sure where it's coming from but there is some wear on the old springs. Suspension is basically stock except for the addition of a rear external sway bar.
