So I have a welder and I don't wanna buy a pre made hitch so I'm going to make one!
Where would be the best place to buy all this iron at? Also I would like to make the hitch out of aluminum if possible... where would I buy that at and is that a good idea?
It's going on a honda crx...
pls respond
pic related is exactly what I'm making

There should be a steel supply shop around you nearby, If you're a real welder you should know this already.
Aluminum would not be a good choice, in addition to being more expensive.

I'm defiantly not a real welder. I've used it like twice LOL.
Also I lied, It's actually going on a first gen honda insight. which has an aluminum frame... I also wanted an aluminum hitch because the car needs to save all the weight it can
>"I have a welder"
>doesn't know his local metal resources
>aluminum
Return your 90 amp harbor freight before you hurt yourself.

It's actually a lincoln electric gasless flux core mig welder. got in on CL for like $150

>aluminum receiver
So you have a tig welder?
You own a multi-thousand dollar welding machine and only used it twice and don't know where to source metal?
?????????

This wont weld aluminum
if you were near me i would give you all the metal you could use.
i also have free access to CNC tube benders. the best one being an BLM E turn

It's a cheap mig welder i got pretty beat on craigslist!!! It even had a spool of aluminum in it so I figured it could weld aluminum

Do you live in Iowa, senpai?

well galesburg
Well, this is going to end badly

i got my welder at a local auction for $350
but it didn't come with an argon tank

You're supposed to use aluminum wire with a spool gun.
Also, 110v aluminum welding is an awful idea, good luck trying to weld 1/4in thick or more aluminum with a 110v machine 2bh
>>17288010
This is much better suited to welding aluminum shit
>>17288012
im not sure how you can use a spool gun without gas. flux core aluminum? thats like scary
>>17287951
You need a gas shielding capable mig to weld aluminum. It's not like steel where you can just use flux core
>>17288035
I have no idea if that even exists 2bh, I assume it does but I've never heard of it.
Also if flux core aluminum exists is it to be used alone or as a dual shield setup?
OP for $110 you can buy a bolt-on trailer hitch that will satisfy the 2000lb towing capacity your shitbox has.
By the time you actually err... "fab" your own hitch, its going to be a lot more expensive, and liable to break since you've shown you don't really know whats up.

I genuinely hope he tries it and creates cold welds that are just barely strong enough to last until he actually tries towing something with it.
