Wish it was like that around here. Even at $800/month you'd be in a shithole, probably just renting a room if you were in the city proper. Even in a 30+ unit apartment building rent starts at $1500/month for a one bedroom, and that's not even close to the popular spots downtown.

And for that much rent, you have the privilege of working for an earth-shattering $15/hour, assuming you're not a doctor or a lawyer or something.

On the plus side though, if you decide to buy a house an hour and a half away in the country, so you can spend 3 hours commuting to work each way, you'd only have to spend a paltry $350k for a two bedroom/one bath house on ten acres that was built 30 years ago.

Though, if you were only looking for $800/month rent, you could probably get a pretty decent one bedroom over a garage about an hour away from the city. I actually know a guy that rents one like that, for exactly that price, utilities extra. I don't think he's been without a tenant for more than a month since he's owned the place.
