Alright /org/y, I am a complete poorfag who bought a $500 '92 Ranger for offroading. It was honestly a fucking steal.

Anyway, I completely destroyed the two rear tires. The front two are not in good condition either. The dipshit who owned the Ranger before me put 14s on it for whatever reason too.

For these reasons, I want to find the cheapest >15 wheels and offroad tires possible. How much do you guys estimate I will spend?
>>
This is a good thread so far
>>
>>17249954
what size tires? really depends desu.
i dont know a whole lot about rangers but assuming you can fit 31s youd probably be looking at $800 or so for a set of wheels and tires
if i were you id just be perusing craigslist. you can sometimes find a decent deal on a set of both

Cheapest route will be buying used on Craigslist. You can likely find stock 15s with shitty tires for damn near free and then you just needs a decent set of tires to fit them. If you can find some shitty cheapo 17s, you can run the stock JK Rubicon tires that a lot people take off and sell for cheap.

Why do you guys jerk off to the Suburban when the Excursion is the better stock offroader?

Solid axles F/R (Dana 60/Sterling 10.5) Front even has locking hubs
Turbodiesel option from stock
Much better towing abilities
Better interior
Plus, it can fit 35" tires with just a couple leveling blocks

I think you're missing the biggest benefit of a Burb. The fact there's so many of the pieces of shit it's easy to find a near immaculate example for pocket change.

The fact remains however you need to fit Excursion parts to a Suburban to make it equal to an Excursion in terms of capability.

>Solid axles F/R
It's SFA but the suspension is pretty terrible and it doesn't have much more travel than an average IFS truck unless you spend tons of money.

>Dana 60
No Excursion ever came from the factory with a Dana 60, ever. All of the 4x4 Excursions got the red headed step child, the Dana 50 in the front. So if you want true 1 tons and decent suspension, you're going to have to spend just as much in mods as you would have to SAS a Suburban.

>Front even has locking hubs
Not really a huge advantage. Locking hubs =/= locker

>Turbodiesel option from stock
Same for the Suburban up to 99. You can still get a Duramax swapped 00+ for around the same price as a diesel Excursion.

The biggest reasons are that you can find a clean Suburban for $3k, a clean Excursion with the shitty 5.4 for $6k, or a clean Excursion with the 7.3 for $8k. So, price.

Then there's parts availability, parts cost, and ease to work on. Suburban wins in all of these regards.

hey, that was me (but before the "drama")! I've messaged like three or four of my friends to buy that thing right now for $5500CAD

It's 200mi or so away from me but that dribe isn't much to buy an LC for 5k, HOWEVER, these are people selling them for really high mileages and will need both TLC and a few thousand to get it trail ready.

I was yelling about that because some guy in a Ford Edge aggressively passed me on the right going 90kmph up a hill in 4th gear slowly crawling up to 100 to overtake a guy. This was after I signalled right to get into the lane but he wooshes to the right of me and just cuts me off somehow.

Anyway, I later passed a Nissan Juke and realised that cars are more as appliances and accessories than they are for the sake of driving. This is pretty much evident from every female (except two) in my life who want self driving cars to become a thing ASAP.
Naturally, accessories go onto appliances for ease of use and modern curvy "Aesthetics" regardless of cost.

a cargo net with duffle bag would probably just not be "aesthetic" enough for the modern crossover generation.

Both sides are arguing like little kids these past couple of threads, and people who lurk these threads usually get turn away for that reason.
On one side, people are looking silly trying to explain their choice of truck, why the truck is more capable/reliable, and failing in the process because they are trying to convince the other side that is hell bent to prove how their truck is best/more reliable, while at the same time both trying to shove down annos throat their ideas to anyone that comes here, and if you don't like them well you are retarded then.

Best part is that when someone comes up with a legitimate problem, they just brush it off with "why would you want to do that?" "just upgrade to so and so" or "parts are cheap/plentiful just replace them you fag", this is not welcoming at all, this is from someone that comes here and mostly just lurk to learn.

Back to lurking.

The problem is if I do the coilovers conversion mid travel set up I think I'm going to want slightly longer CVs. Also, right now I'm running the factory Cvs with 205k on them and they've been at max angle for the last 15k. I don't wanna buy some nice shiny new ones and then run them at crazy angles before I have a chance to drop the diff and tame the angle. Idk though
>>
>>17254833
I put people behind the seat in my trucc.

Forgot about the actual cab setup. I have boxes under the suicide seats that can rest on, I have a gun rack that can hold tools, guns, fishing poles, etc that clips to the two seats, and I have roof hangers that I can use to dangle shit from the ceiling like suits or cables.
>>
>>17254843
I assume you have torsion bars now, then? Turn the keys down to tame the angle until you drop the diff. The CVs aren't the only thing that suffer from that extra angle. Are you wanting custom UCAs to make room for a coilover, or are you wanting custom longer everything for more travel? If you're thinking you're going to get much extra travel out of longer arms you can forget that. You might get a 3/4" down travel and 1/4" up travel. It's not going to be much.

Yeah it fucking does. The best thing you can do is tear them out, drop diff inch or two and find some new control arms and have some fabricator make shock mounts for coilovers and hope to find CVs that will fit. Either that or do a bro-tier dropbracket lift which is gay.

If you wanna do a SAS you can but it's a shitload of work. Would be badass to do a 3 link SAS with a Dana and elocker and long travel coilovers.
>>
>>17255289
You're not going to find any off the shelf CVs that will fit if you fabricate longer control arms, and the control arms would need to be about a foot longer to get any sort of travel out of them. In order to keep the CVs from binding if you drop the diff, you need to drop the control arms as well, and at that point you've just fabricated your own drop bracket lift.

3 link SAS would be easier than what you're talking about doing.

Have you considered a roof rack and three side steps to access the roof? I saw a contractor with an EDGE Ranger (the one that already came with a side step to access the bed) that just added two more steps the other day and put a toolbox on the roof.

The alternative is to hang things from the top of your hardshell case or just literally buy a mechanic tool box and shove it into the bed.

Also, when offroading, how do you prevent those bed clamps from falling off? I've had to do so many road side reclamps with a power drill. I finally got a huge torque spanner and cranked them into place making this horrid grinding aluminium sound.

Roof rack - nah. That would only ever be used for planks and other really long things, but my LED-bar makes it so that whatever I could put on the roof can go in the bed. Pic related is how I transport planks now

I also kinda dont want a 50cm box on the roof

As for top clamps - I dunno. Mine have sat perfect no matter how many bumps, ditches or anything it has been through

217k
>>
>>17267064
Depends on the vehicle. That's high for, say, an XJ, but perfectly acceptable for a 3/4-ton diesel.
>>
>>17263757
Just buy stock size. If you want you can go to vatozone and pay a little bit extra for the high-carbon ones, which should hold up to heat a little better and resist rust, but ultimately any rotor that's the right size will do the job. If you can lock up the wheels, your brakes are strong enough.

No. I got the FJ80 (LX450)

The initial repair cost was only the gas tank and welding the cat. to get it trail worthy. Had to rebuild front axle soon and fix the rear lockers, too but I didn't do that until I flipped it into a river that was a bit too deep. Gas tank fix was $750 and I included the taxes I pay to the gubmn't in the $1500 estimate.

After the river, I gotta actually rebuild the front, fix electrical, and gut the interior. No big deal it just makes the problems more evident so I deal with them now instead of later

Puss poor fuel mileage and they're massive.

Get a XJ or something, they're probably the most affordable decent 4x4.

Im only a yota guy because I grew up with them. Came close to buying a '75 cherokee with a boosted 302 on propane but I couldn't get the money together. Jeep is decent stuff
>>
>>17267389
Thanks. It turned out pretty good for height. One of the springs I used for the front is kind of sacked so I might need to add a leaf in that side.

Steering was a bitch to set up, especially with the truck being as low as I made it
>>

I can imagine, also yeah I saw that it had a bit of gangster lean going on there. Most SAS toyotas I see are like that anyways.

I like that you didn't go too high with it either and kept it low slung.
>>
>>17267431
That's a huge-ass range. My current DD is rated 13city/19highway, and with the modifications I've made gets 20mpg@60mph. Do you think an E-fan conversion would help on a Suburban?
>>
>>17253223
Ermagherd!!! Taytay using a Toyota holy shit!!!!!!!!!
>>
>>17267450
Yes that would help, suburbans are the shit! I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I've personally owned two square body suburbans and one sqare body K5 currently. The weak point is the transmission, but it it's been rebuild you're good to go. From the factory the 1/2 ton transmissions are setup to shift super smooth for soccer moms, which isn't great for longevity with running them harder with big tires and abusive offroading.

Also who gives a shit about fuel mileage, especially if it'll just be a winter beater, the money saved on the initial purchase (also parts being so cheap and common) will more than make up for fuel costs. Insurance is also dirt cheap cuz they assume you'll drive it like a little old lady.
>>
>>17267376
>>17267424
I forgot how ugly those 4runners are, overpriced junk. Plus the solid axle you used from the old toyota trucks is way too narrow, you have to run spacers or large offset wheels.

I'm so glad I sold my 4runner before dumping too much money into it, not even gonna start on how shit the 3.slow is with their junk automatic and fluid transfer case...
>>
>>17267519
Fuel mileage becomes a huge concern when you commute ~40 miles each way.
>>
>>17267549
Then don't buy a 4wd you poor fuck. Capable offroader and great fuel mileage don't go hand in hand, especially when you want cheap price as well.

But in all seriousness my square body with the 5.7 TBI engine would get 15-16 mpg on the highway, you should be able to get similar with the newer suburbans.

If you can't stomach 15mpg then you probably can't afford to own a 4wd. I know people who got worse fuel mileage from XJs and TJs, jeeps get really shit MPG for how small they are...

that's because of the weight of the fucking things (they're as heavy as light trucks). that and the fact that they're just two walls flying through the air. They're literally as aerodynamic as a cinderblock (up to the TJs). Though, I've heard good stories about people putting drag flaps on the rear and adding a front cone in order to squeeze 2-3 more MPG on the highway

Probably not, but I'm gonna tell you anyway

Pretty much everything. When clean, they're comfy as hell, all that extra padding makes even jeans feel soft, and the absorbency makes ball sweat nonexistent. When you need to go, they're convenient as hell, no need to worry about stopping what you're doing or finding a bathroom. When I go, they're warm as hell and get squishy, which turns my dick into diamond. And after i go, they're even comfier because they stay squishy, though the smell after #2 is not something I'm fond of, and cleanup after #2 is damn near impossible unless you take a shower, but it's worth it for an insanely intense orgasm without touching myself.

i guess just be careful with that shit honestly. im probably older than you and in my limited world view it seems like shit like this usually gets worse before it gets better. id imagine your end goal is to get a gf and live a normal life (sorry if its not and im projecting) and if thats the case this might be something you need to keep to yourself and try to not let flourish. finding someone who has this shared interest is going to be near impossible, and if you somehow do succeed, chances are you wont be happy with eachother.
