I´ll assume, that you want a hatchback.
If available in your market, the french hatchbacks(Renault Megane, Peugeot 308, so on) offer a lot of go for little money. If not, then Ford Focus(ST, RS,,,) or Volvo C30(T5). Fiats are an intresting choice in the same way that the french ones are, but cheaper(atleast in the euroland). The japanese are usually a safe choice.
BMW´s and Mercedes-Benzes might be out of your budget, but the 1-series and the new A-class are nice.
