Factory tires have a grip limit. At GTR power levels, the extra weight of the car helps grip upon launch. Since automotive media is so focuses on 0-60 times, they took this into account. Again, do some research beyond /o/ shitposts; this is all well-documented.

At speed, weight doesn't hurt anything nearly as much.

Did I mention I hate the new GTR and think it ruined a legacy? By being too heavy and too large? I'm not arguing that point. Just that they did have a logical reason to design it this way.

Does a heavier car not push down on the tires more, increasing the contact patch? It is true that mass doesn't affect the rate something falls at, but it's already at rest on the ground.

You can try this yourself at home with a floor jack and your shitbox. Lift the car on one corner and watch how the bottom of the tire changes shape, reducing the size of the contact patch as you take weight off the tire.

You can take air out of the tires to increase the contact patch, that's why different weight cars have different recommended pressure with the same tire. Weight is the enemy of acceleration and traction. Some old white guy even made a handy equation
