I currently drive a 2007 S2000 with 116k miles, and a 1995 240sx. Both stock. Just dumped $1800 into the s2000 and $500 into the 240sx. The S2000 is still broken after a complete head rebuild, and the nissan could shit at any second because it's old and sitting.

I am disgustingly close to selling everything and buying a brand new BRZ. What do you think?
>>
You sound like a fag, go for it. I'll enjoy dusting you off in a +4,000lbs SUV.
>>

I drive a 2013 TT FJ Cruiser w/ TRD Supercharger. My car is objectively faster than yours, despite being pigfat.

I like knowing that I can manhandle bitches like you on and off the road, it reaffirms my dominance. Not only can I physically best manlets such as yourself, but mechanically as well.

Stay salty, gayboy.

Turns out the valve guides are ticking time bombs from the factory. It's still stalling and reeks of fuel so I'm just pissed and don't trust any car I'm in anymore.

Eh, sounds fixable, though. I wouldn't get rid of the S2000 if whatever is wrong is fixable. I had a AP1 some years ago, got rid of it in a fit of depression, and regretted it until I recently got a ND Miata. The Miata is nice in a lot of ways that the S wasn't, much more enjoyable on our shit roads, but I miss the VTEC kick. The 86 is a fucking no-go, because the torque dip is the opposite of VTEC in the shittiest way possible. Fuck that engine and fuck Toyota for letting Subaru convince them to use it.

I'm hoping it is. I have usually done all maintenance on the car myself since it never needed much other than fluid changes, valve adjustments, etc. This was the first time I took it to an S2000 specialist, and he definitely did a great job with the head, but I'm just frustrated with the car since, after all this, it's still shitting the bed lol.

A bolt on is a term for a kit which goes on aftermarket you dipshit, its as opposed to an engine which came with the charger from factory with the specific hardware to support it. Next time you make a useless smartass comment, at least try to be correct
>>
>>17218508

Bolt on refers to aftermarket parts that don't require fabrication/welding, dipshit. You can get bolt-on exhaust kits, and those which require fab for proper fitment.

Try not to look like a COMPLETE cunt.
>>
Anyyywhoooo. These threads bring out all the gay boys to the yard.

I on an FRS.
The good: one of best handling cars I've driven. It puts a smile on my face when I drive it. One of best platforms out there new.

The bad: engine needs forget internals if you want to run safe 350+whp. The fucking piston arms have a desing defect that Subaru will never admit to. Shitty torque even when boosted.

If you have money do following: call Edelbrock and ask her if they will match an extended warranty. If they say yes. Buy edelbrock sc. If they say no, haggle w them a bit and still buy it regardless of the outcome.
Have the engine taken apart when it's under 1000km and have it built. Easy pull and switch cuz no machining work.

Congrats. You now have a car that is safe to boost to 350-400hp, drives amazing, will last you for next 15 years with minimal repairs. All under 40k.
>>
>>17218363
Serious talk, BRZ is a great option especially if you track and race it. Get some coilovers and good, grippy tyres and with enough practise you'll be punching up on the track.
They grip and handle insanely well, easily compensating their engine. Plus they're fantastic learners cars.

Then buy the brz cuz it's got better lights and a bunch of sensors and shit.

If you like the car after 30min drive. Pull the trigger. I did and I'm super happy w my decision.

I really like the "back seats". I just use it for storage. Laptop bag and blazer go behind pasanger seat. Permanent storage of warm clothes is behind driver seat.
Bigger things go in trunk.

Overall very happy. Would recommend.

Important to note they're using all slim people and manlets in the back. I recently attempted 6'3" driver, 5'8" """husky""" person passenger and my third 6'0" passenger opted for sideways in the back rather than try to jockey seats and legs around.

Certainly better than nothing, but it really is mainly children and handy extra storage with the oddball situation of squeezing maybe one or two adults in a pinch.

I still think I might like a smaller, more roadster-like 2-seater for day to day use, but the extra space does add a meaningful degree of utility that is handy to have when you need it.

Every single BRZ/FR-S/86 owner I know paid for it in full out of his own pocket. I don't even know where the "what did you parents pay for it" meme came from.
>>
Is the brz/frs/86 a good idea for some one that's never owned a rwd car and will be using it as a daily? I plan on getting new tires no matter what car I get for winter.
>>
>>17224568
Lmao it was actually a grad present to myself.

I wrote a check for it with my signing bonus that I got before I even finished finals

Work harder small son

Congratulations, you're the main target demographic.

Yes.
For winter tyres just as with all vehicles: get real fucking studded winter ones not all weather garbage and drive smooth and you will never have a problem.

I'm honestly in the same position as you, I'm getting sick of fixing up my Boxster. I actually want to drive my car not wrench on it every weekend

>all you need is a header
Headers barely add 5whp to the BRZ. You're crazy. Go on the BRZ forums and check it out for yourself. People dropped 3+ grand in boltons only to dyno 20whp extra. And BRZs normally dyno around 160whp. If you want to make the BRZ serious, you gotta spend serious money and you are looking at 8, 9 grand for the turbo kit without install.

>>17219686
>just get a turbo
It's not that simple. You also gotta upgrade all the parts around the turbo to get the most out of it - fuel pump, injectors, axles, and clutch for starters. And that's just with low boost. With higher boost, you gotta factor in the motor and tranny which gets much more expensive. Then wheels and suspension while it isn't absolutely required, is heavily recommended otherwise you'll just spin tires for days.

You can easily drop 20 grand into the slow turd to hit 300+whp or higher. That's a combined total of almost 50 grand to get the same power as a base 370z or v8 mustang with boltons and your warranty has been voided.

And yes those cars are much more heavier, HOWEVER, it's easier, cheaper, and more reliable to gut a fat pig than it is to put a skinny turtle on a rocket.
>>
>>17226827
yea rob spaghetti has a video where his employee or friend or something put $30k into a brz and barely hit 350whp and ended up selling it for really cheap

As a Honda owner, I agree. 90% of them are fuckboys. They take a rusted oldass Civic hatch, gut it, and put the loudest exhaust possible on it. No styling, no fucks given. Then they argue with you for days about power to weight.

But a select few have pretty beast builds. The S2000 is a strong and reliable car. With a J swap, you can make pretty beast power for a fair price while maintaining reliability and styling. It's something that's not possible with the BRZ because the car, as a tuner, is utterly worthless. It's also got shit power, and as a track car, isn't even that good. What did it run on the ring again? 8'50? A minute slower than the new Civic Type R? On a literal track where BRZ fuckboys claim RWD would prevail. Gimme a fucking break.
>>
>>17226827
I know a lot of people who reached reliable 300whp with barely 10 grand worth of upgrades, namely a turbo/supercharger kit, oil cooler, wheels and tires.

And before you spaz out on muh feels, I completely understand but the value in the brz is fucked

Go for it OP. I heard they're really fun to drive. I would keep the s2000 tho.

30k is about what the Vorshlag brz ls2 v8 swap cost after labor and custom fab work, and that car is tits.
>>
>>17226856
No you don't.

Low boost SC / turbo kit wouldn't give anymore than 60whp and that's being generous. BRZ dynos 160whp stock. Anymore than 220-240whp and it's a ticking time bomb. Stock internals wouldn't hold almost double the power. You're delusional if you think otherwise. This isn't Forza.

There's a reason why most of the car world hates on it and why newbs without any car knowledge are picking one up. See >>17224605

This right fucking here. People just say shit they see online or in some half ass video and they don't know shit about the car. Drive it extensively then do ACTUALLY research before you bash a bash. Hate me some /o/ sometimes. Idc what car it is RESEARCH before you talk.
>>
From what I see the engine handles 330whp pretty well. Torque is kinda low though but 330 from 9 psi is pretty good for a NA flat 4.
>>
Sticky tires and coilovers are all you need to be fast on a track with a BRZ, assuming you have the skill to reach the limit of the car

Those boomers on the track can't drive for shit and use the power from their Corvettes and Shelbys on straight to mask the fact that their lines are absolute dog shit. Don't be a boomer
>>
>>17230330
>Sticky tires and coilovers
The stock suspension is fine, I'd get brakes before coilovers. The stock brakes fade ridiculously fast on the track, considering the low weight and low speeds.

The stock brakes are fine, brakepads are shit.
Talked to some people who track their toyobaru and they said they just use race pads which need warming up.
They put it on, do a run up and down the local highway to warm up the brakes and tyres and then go hit the track

youve probably driven your shitbox near the limit on the prius tires but when that car has decent grip available it shits the bed without upgraded suspension

its under damped and wallows and floats around and is generally sketchy at the limit with decent tires

ive driven 3 frs/brz with stock/ springs only/ coils so the difference is for me to gauge
>>

It's better than the regular R8 in every way. All of the Le Mans know how went into it. I actually worked for the Audi department in Nekarsulm that developed this for half a year, and they said the only reason it didn't go into production was that it would've ruined sales of the non-diesel R8, which they make a lot more profit with.
>>
>>17230579

I don't see many around at all anymore. Imagine rolling coal in one?

I say fuck it just do it.
>>
>>17230614
That'd be ass fucking backwards, the R8 TDI has/had the most advanced exhaust aftertreatment system to date.
