Just bought an unknown mileage previous-previous owner claims was rebuilt tranny....
Out of a 2000 Subaru Impreza, for my 2004...
How fucked am I?
Was $200... just lost my job recently, both our vehicles are broken.. can't really justify $1000+ at the tranny shop.
I hope this one is usable for a bit.. and I can rebuild our old one as a spare.
That's what you get for buying Japanese cars

Instead of buying what?
Or are you implying an American car wouldn't be $1000+ at the tranny shop? Because they will be too.

>buying a memebaru
>not having an emergency fund
you dun goofed.
should've bought a 3k civic.

Have emergency fund... Can't justify half the price of the car to fix it.

TH350 swapped subaru when.
>>17190894
Is that actually a thing? Can just weld the center diff if you want RWD Subaru...
>>17190948
I mean, a TH350 is a lot easier to rebuild, and with a death wheel and some determination I'm sure it'd work.....

You ever seen inside a Subaru tranny? Its not that complex at all. No magic trickery going on in there.. Its basically a bike tranny with syncros.
The cases are even easy to split.
>>17190886
Sure you can. You replace it, fuck something up and then you have to pay a mechanic to fix it. Now you're out the time and money.

I'm not your average /o/tist..
>>17191181
Bonus points if you can name the truck the tranny is sitting in.
>>17191185
That is relatively large. You got a good buy in dollars per pound.

uck yeah bud

>Paying a mechanic to fix your shitboxes
I'll drive mine into the ground before I pay someone shop rate to turn a few bolts and swing a hammer.
Now body work on the other hand, that actually requires skill to be done correctly. But changing parts? Nah.

As soon as I get the alternator back in the Kei truck... tranny swap commences.
Need the car for emergency use right now... so can't start pulling it apart.
$600 is the going rate for re/re a Subaru transmission around here... fuck that.

It's likely fine. Synchros are probably worn, its likely not been rebuilt but it should be okay. Luckily they are quite easy to install.

My original tranny has 280k KM on it, syncros aren't worn at all, but it's losing either the input shaft bearing, or the other bearing behind the pinion.
It whines under load starting off in first, and the higher the gear you're in the less noise it makes.
