Correction, they would sell three times as many if it actually came with a lift back instead of a trunk lid, and advertised it as a practical sporty car for normies. As it's configured and promoted now it only appeals to autistic sports car fags that can't afford it.

That is almost 100lbs less than the 86 exactly. Not bad considering the 2 cars are almost 25 years apart.

You realize the 86 is 2775lbs right? You think they could add a lift back with only adding 100lbs? Do they even make modern day lift back coupes anymore? I'm genuinely curious.

What do you even want to put in the trunk? People already fit their mountain bikes back there.

IMO, it wasn't the engine they fucked up, it was the lack of a proper track setup that kept this car back. You need to modify a ton of stuff to make it even remotely ready for a track day. That and the stock traction on this thing is total shit. Even with PSS on the stock rims, sliding everywhere. I shouldn't have to buy 9" rims to get sticky. That, and it looks retarded on its monster-truck suspension.

The FA20 is a great motor. Honestly they just needed to do a BRZ STI so the people that wanted a hardcore sports car could have one. The only thing Subaru couldn't pull out of the parts bin for it would have been the transmission and they could have built one in house using the STI six speed gear set in a newly developed RWD case.

They basically have to use the boxer with their AWD system. Because of where they have to position the transmission relative to the wheels a longitudinally mounted I4 would be too tall for their sedan derived cars and would make their cars even more ridiculously nose heavy. Before you say "just change to a transverse mounted engine" I'm going to remind you that would mean throwing away their entire AWD system which is simply not going to happen.

The only other engine you could fit under the hood without ruining the car completely from a weight distribution perspective is a fucking rotary which I suspect you would not be happy with as a solution.

all of the EJ20's have thicker cylinder walls, and rev significantly higher. People literally throw TD05's on these engines @ 25PSI with no other mods all the fucking time.

All of the EJ22's have thicker cylinder walls, stronger internal components, etc.

All of the EZ30, EZ36, and EG33 engines outlive the EJ series.

The EE20 Diesel is unstoppable.

Should I continue, or do you see my point? All manufactures have bad engines, trying to undercut Subaru solely based in the EJ25 is retarted.

>Even if it was true (it isn't)
But you're fucking wrong, anon.

Prodrive designed the DCCD systemwhich comes on the STi TY85* series transmission.

>it doesn't take a genius
These STOCK transmissions are used in very high horsepower (<700 whp) subaru's for a reason, they're way stronger than the TY75* series 5-Speeds.

Prodrive creates a design prototype with heavy mechanical modification, and subaru mass produces these parts to spec. That's it, the STi comes with special parts because it's the STi. Besides, the current gearbox design is literally three separate segments, changing that design would cost way too much for a single model that doesn't sell as well as the STi or the Outback
>>
>>17190420
>Prodrive designed the DCCD systemwhich comes on the STi TY85* series transmission.
You're gonna have to post some first hand evidence that Prodrive designed the DCCD system because it was on the 1994 JDM STIs which were still using the TY75s. 1994 was also the first year the rally car had an active center differential so assuming Prodrive did design it would mean that Subaru threw it onto their production cars before they'd even finish a single rally season which obviously didn't happen.

>Prodrive creates a design prototype with heavy mechanical modification, and subaru mass produces these parts to spec.
Wait you think Prodrive does Subaru's R&D? That's literally the STI division's job which is why the car has their name on it. Subaru and Prodrive haven't had a professional relationship for over 8 years.

>Besides, the current gearbox design is literally three separate segments
How exactly? They'd need to design a new case to hold the gearset sans center and front differential. People already do RWD conversions with their STI transmissions by removing those parts.

I'm not disagreeing, but the main difference is the tires. I put on PSSs and it's noticably faster in every way. 0-60 in 6 seconds is no problem now, as opposed to the "7.6" seconds it's rated as. The guy in the video racing against the Pacifica took a whopping 8.5 seconds to 60, I have to assume he's deliberately driving slow to make the "slower than a minivan" meme real.

Even the 6.9 seconds I sometimes see is almost a second slower than what I do on regular roads in a bone stock car with good street tires.

Man, 86's wear the black color very well

God I hate that fucking toyota look on the 86, BRZ looks so much better.

I'm not a fan of modern mean/angry looking cars, but if I wanted the dumb happy face I would've gotten an NC Miata. Also, that huge black plastic piece above the grill, absolutely disgusting. The foglights are pretty uninspired as well.

I agree with that, except the miata part, at least the refresh looks better.

I couldn't unironically drive a car like this. Every time I saw the front I'd think to myself "what the fuck is there to smile about you dumb cunt".
>>
>>17192208
The spoiler looks like thin flimsy shitty metal, the front bumper looks worse with the split part on corners, the steering wheel is terrible with those hideous buttons all over. Old BRZ is best

Yeah but you get those bomb looking brembos and the PP struts are supposed to be pretty fantastic

Not enough for me to trade in my 2014 though
>>
>>17192272
Don't you have to buy a "performance package" well over 30k? For me base 86 is the way to go. I like sporty cloth seats and hate the idea of push button start

People are getting the BRZ with PP for 28k, well under invoice.

The 86 is literally the worst value right now. It is more expensive than the base BRZ and doesn't come with a rear spoilers or underbody aerodynamic panels like the BRZ does.

There is no reason for anyone to buy the 86 over the BRZ unless you like the looks

Less buffeting
Quieter cabin
Better weather protection

don't even try to compare any car to a Lexus grill. Lexus is objectively the worst out of any car.

How about LFA rear grills?

No, the 2015 Honda civic si engine is. 2.4l 210hp and way more torque
>>
Meh

Looking at FD Miatas now.

400+lbs lighter, and those sky active motors are putting out more than the claimed 155hp for sure. Better looking too.

The rear seats are almost a living meme, although I did stick one adult across both of them the other day. And having a real roof meant I could strap about 3x as much as it in the trunk on top for transport.

Still think I'd rather have a miat except for those odd moments I need a utility car.

>mfw could have sold tens of thousands of extra cars to weebs of all stripes in many countries

Why dont these idiots understand how to meme sales in 201X
>>
>>17188306
Lets ignore the low power for a minute.

Why is it not a liftback?

Its supposed to be a poorfag sportscar. Why not give it more utility by being liftback. It wont change the peformance and the looks would only be affect very limited.
>>
>>17196861
Subaru seems to have a real knack for strange compromises. There are a number of things they could have done to place it more firmly in the grocery getter category.

But all of them would take away from the part-time track whore appeal. And you can't quite place your finger on why not both.
>>
>>17196710
its pretty comfy up front
back seats are just used as parcel tray most of the time
>>17196747
all they had to do was make minor changes to an ej20t then gimp it on the ecu to pass modern emissions
>>
>>17188600
I've driven a coworker's BRZ and my only complaint for the mmm oney is it is a bit short on power and if it had 260+ UP I'd like the first four years stretched out a smidge to suit. Otherwise I think it's a solid rig
