Why doesn't everyone install oil catch cans?

From what I've read so far, they filter out a bunch of nasty shit and the only reason manufacturers dont include them is because people will forget to drain them, So why are they so uncommon? should I not get one?
>>
They're uncommon because people will forget to drain them.
>>
>>17146911
Get an AOS and never have to worry about emptying it is my advice.
>>
What is ofc system?

Only time a catch can is needed is on a high FI motor which intentionally has higher ring to cylinder wall clearance

Can any engine have a catch can installed or only turbos?
I want my K1G engine to be inmortal
>>
>>17146911
Because you're piston rings are fucking junk if you have enough blow to actually need one of these. Modern diesel engines use crankcase filters which perform a similar task, but is entirely unecessary on a properly operating 4 stroke engine.
>>
dont catch cans release a bit of oil mist into your engine bay?

fuck that shit.
>>
>>17147539
if you think blow by is the only reason oil gets sucked into the intake on a modern car you're a fucking idiot. Fitting you drive a mustang.
>>
>>17147781
Nah a proper catch can should exhaust back into the intake.
>>
>>17146911
I think the problem with them is removing the pcv valve and venting your crank case to atmosphere. Some states are communist.

Why not just install something similar to an air separator with a filter in it?
>pic related is normal install
>for auto usage, reverse inlet and outlet
Oil and whatnot would be caught in the strainer, clean air gets sucked back into the intake.
>>
>>17147518
You're retarded.
>>
>>17146911
because they're pointless
>>
>>17147539
You're fucking stupid lmao. All cars get blow by it doesn't matter if your rings and bore are brand new and gapless you still get blow by and positive crankcase pressure.
>>
>>17149294
>removing pcv recirc
>pointless
>not getting oil all over your engine bay
>pointless
hmm
>>
>>17149359
I've never had any problems running my vehicles without one

shit is snake oil
>>
>>17146911

You only need one if your crank case pressure is higher than stock, like a high hp na or turbo/supercharged.
>>
>>17149375
You have a pcv recirc.
it's an emissions thing.
it coats your intake with oil and replaces oxygen with inert gas.
removing it gives you power and just generally removes a headache
using a catch can when you remove it stops oil from getting in your bay.

you not understanding the point doesn't mean it's pointless.
>>
>>17149393
so what if a little oil get in the intake? modern cars are designed to deal with it

its a waste of money, good job falling for it
>>
>>17149479
We don't all drive stock toyota camrys to and from school and work exclusively you fucking casual normie faggot.

>i dont understand something
>must be snake oil
kill yourself.
>>
>>17149479

I'm sure that MAF and TB could enjoy a good lubricating, right?
>>
>>17149538
pcv dumps into the intake behind the tb
>>
>>17146911
From factory it's an additional service item, not worth it. But you can do it yourself for cheap.

If done properly, there's no downside to having one, you'll get a slightly cleaner ait/fluel mixture, and you won't have to clean your intake system as often.

Just don't fall for the 100$ kits, most are just rebranded ching chong crap you can find for 15$ on ebay.
>>
>>17149562

Not all. Mine dumps into the airbox.
>>
>>17149568
to add to this, I know of a few garages, I've heard of an oil consumption issue on skyactiv engine which was solved by installing a catch can. http://www.jamesbaroneracing.com/blog/theres-nothing-positive-about-the-2-0l-skyactiv-pcv-system/
>>
>>17149600
Shit that's some poor phrasing, sorry about that.
>>
>>17146911
Because you can find a million cars with 300,000+ miles on the roads, including direct injected cars (the only time you could possibly have an argument for a catch can) and only a small handful will have catch cans, if any. If you're going for a full retard tune and don't want your engine to last anyway, you might get it to last 5% longer with a catch can.

I've heard "RX" cans destroy a lot of peoples' engines.
>>
my car has a map oil catch can, the person who built the engine just put a tube from the drain plug on the bottom to the ground
>>
>>17150836
Retards like you are going to make vehicle emissions/equipment/safety inspections required across the country.
>>
>>17150860
emissions and equipment saftey inspection are required in my state, but i passed

so that means your civic with the axle back exhaust and intake will be fine
>>
>>17146911
Because I can just plug the hole in the intake and let that fuckin hose hang like Christ intended.
>>
>>17147847
There's also oil leakage on the valve stems that contribute to the carbon formed at the intake valve of direct injection engines.
>>
>>17150873
You are wrong. Emissions are required in your county.
Source: I live in Franklin county and we don't get inspections cause we're not a shithole like cleveland

>so what if a little oil get in the intake? modern cars are designed to deal with it
Direct Injection engines are not designed to deal with it. The oil carbonizes on the hot intake valve and never gets cleaned off. In older fuel injection engines, fuel mist does appear on the intake valve and thus the detergents clean the intake valve.

Direct injection engines have an injector for each cylinder that puts the fuel directly into the cylinder. It is not injected into the air stream outside the cylinder. Toyota and other car manufacturers are going backwards a little to fix the problem by having both direct injectors and another set of injectors put some fuel on the intake valve.

That's why "top tier" gasoline doesn't do much for cars that are direct injection. It does work for cars that have throttle bodies or cars with injectors outside the cylinder.
>>
>>17147539
if you think two high speed sliding separate piece of metals will never leak air, you are dumb.
>>
>>17151698
can you not fucking read retard

also franklin county is shit thats why they have no stadiums, no casino, no lake, no tourism, no industry, very vew colleges, no bar scene, no nightlife, and propery values and costs that are half of cuyahoga county
>>
>>17146911
>Why doesn't everyone install oil catch cans?

Because for consumer cars, detergent gasolines clean the intake valve adequately especially if it is top tier gasoline. It's only direct injection users that avoid having an intake valve cleaning by installing a catch can.

If you have your dealer do an intake valve cleaning for $350 or more, it is basically much like:

>>17151716
This man is correct. DI cars can benefit from catch cans because it will slow oil residue buildup in the head. YMMV from car to car though.
>>
>>17149590
Mine has both.
>>
>>17149562
Mine dumps into the air filter inlet in front of the turbo so it can go into my intercooler, charge pipes, tb, sensors and coat the intake manifold and my ports/ valves.
>>
>>17151716
Nah that only applies to people who baby DI cars

I take my DI shitbox very near redline every time I drive it.

The Italian tune-up isn't a meme for direct injection

mines long as shit. vents back into the valve cover on the driver side. I also have friends with catch cans installed on a Hemi Ram, F150 5.0L and F150 2.7L. all installed with the vehicle being less than a year old and they're plenty effective. with my truck I used to get a nice puff of black smoke when I laid into it hard after driving normally for a while but I don't get that anymore with the catch can installed.
>>
>>17156033
How often does it need to be emptied?

If I forget to empty it in the nick of time, what bad things would happen?
