At what point do you give up and sell your car, instead of trying (and failing) to maintain it?

If nonpersonal attachment, as soon as I have put more in the car than the resale value, I just cut my losses and continue on.
when it becomes uneconomic to repair ie its cheaper to buy another one

Pretty much this, also if work costs are involved.

when it starts eating oil and rusting
Cars are extremely easy to maintain. If you can't do it you should consider pretending to be into a different hobby.
are you the dumbass that asked if this was a Chevelle in the qtddtot?

When keeping it running costs more than the payments on a newer car, including premiums paid on insurance and breakdown cover for driving an older car.
My current car's staying until 100k or being ten years old, then it's up for replacement before it gets unreliable.

when it sits too long and you give up on it
i never sold a vehicle for someone elses use in my life, only for scrap until i had a 81 Toyota Hilux that was fucking miserable, did a drivetrain swap then it started running like shit a while after. new carb, ran, next summer started running like shit again. axle seal leak, fixed it, oil slinger inside the diff dislodges and brake line snaps in half. one thing after another
had so many fucking issues with it and it sat in my driveway for years so i sold it to a guy who wanted to finish it and put extra cash down on another 4x4. ive owned many old vehicles and done major repairs on them but this thing was one after another after another

Fix all the vacuum lines in my Audi then, jackass
for the sake of diversity keep it
When the frame rusts.
That's it.
extreme rust, usually. frame rot or huge holes in the body, or lines so busted I'd have to run new ones entirely. fuck that noise.

Lol had a 66 thunder bird that ran a/c, power locks, trunk locks, and some other little functions on vacuum and when one went They all started going hay wire
I got an 85 Silvia that does so much shit on vacuum it's appalling. I'm doing all the work myself, god help me.
