i got a traffic camera ticket for an exorbitant amount of money last year
naturally, i went to the courthouse to schedule a trial because i'm not going to just hand large amounts of money to the city without a fight
i have the date stamped ticket from the courthouse saying i requested a trial
i never heard anything for 9 months or whatever about it and assumed it was just that the court was backlogged
until today i get a fucking collection notice saying i owe an even more exorbitant amount of money and if i don[t pay in 5 days it's going to affect my credit
wtf. how is this okay? what should i do?

NCO? Don't give those fuckers any money and deal with the city directly. Email them the payment to the city and tell them to fuck off and purge your name from their system

I got a red light ticket once and I NEVER paid for it (it was like $600). The next year I got a letter asking for SEVEN-HUNDRED DOLLARS ($700); I still did not pay. This was about 4 years ago, nothing bad has ever happened from me not paying this ticket.
>I live in LA (more specifically the valley) if that makes any difference

You are the one supposed to follow up on it and not them. So your waiting for 9 months and longer is your fault and not theirs. Even if they send out a letter, those get lost, stuck inside someone's magazine, stuck inside someones mailed circular advertising newsprint, etc. I've gotten other people's mail before that way. Lucky for them I took a trip to the post office to have it delivered properly, but I bet most people just open it hoping for a cashable check or throw it away.

courts are regularly backed up for years or more.. 9 months isn't really any time in court years
