It's way lighter. Gt86 has McPherson struts up front and multilink rear. iirc the Miata has double wishbone all around.

The Miata is 2300lbs, the 86 is 2700lbs. The Miata is also more expensive and not designed to be a viable daily driver. It also has grippier tires since it isn't made for drifting.

If the Miata is worse at anything, it's the suspension tuning. The 86 corners perfectly flat, the Miata rolls like a mail truck.
