Is this a good classic project car? It's a 1968 Jaguar XJ, the engine needs work but the body has no rust and it already has a nice paint job.

Drop a 2JZ

>no rust
yeah uh sure
not a bad project, less electricals than an xj40 and iirc no hydraulic fuckery too.
Just don't expect it to be fast or in good condition mechanically (expect worn bushings and such)
>>17064060
no
most if not all the wiring harness smoke has probably escaped and will cost a fortune to replace
and the genuine Lucas smoke is getting harder and harder to find, you might have to try and adapt shitty Polish or Mexican knockoff 12kV smoke to the non standard 10kV original

No dont do it old jags suck to fix
Buy a corvair for a cheap good classic project car. Clark's corvair parts are super cheap and you can pick a rust free one for 2500-3000

But what about the body, isn't that something to consider? I don't mind engine work, it's the fact that it's already got a new paint job and doesn't need any serious body work that's attracting me to it. Very hard to find a cheap project classic car that's already painted.

WIRING
HARNESS
SMOKE
Don't buy it
>>17064554
Don't listen to the one memer
If you can afford to have it sit for a year and can do mechanical work yourself then buy it
>>17064554
>it's already got a new paint job
and more weight in bondo under that fresh paint than any fat chick you can ever expect to put in the passenger seat

How can you tell it has bondo from the picture?

What a beautiful machine. Who cares if it runs? I'd gladly just keep it clean and masturbate to the damn thing.
Fantasies apart, if you can wrench it shoudn't be much of a problem. It's a fairly uncomplicated old car, and if you manage to upgrade the electrics you're golden. MPG is fucking abysmal, but in burgerland that won't be an issue. Anyway, for 950 miserable dollaroos you can't go wrong. The wheels alone are probably worth that or more.

you will snap oversteer into a crowd of green party protestors and die.

I had a 1984 xj6 sovereign which was a series 3. Here are my honest thoughts:
> There will be rust. Especially around the rear windows.
> parts are hard to get
> 6cyl with 3 speed auto performance is abysmal along with fuel usage. You can reach 105mph if you have a very very very long road
> leather interior will leave most upholsterers swearing. Even fake leather interior will run you a few grand.
> mine had Lucas electronics and we're fairly reliable.
> sunroof will leak. Guaranteed.
The twin tanks are a pain to fuel up, and the rear brake rotors are inboard right next to the diff. Gotta drop the axles to change your brakes. They take a 350chev v8 swap fairly easy. Or go the v12.
Rides like nothing I've ever driven before or since. Attracts 0 women but plenty of old men who come tell you about how they always wanted a jag.

because it carries the internationally recognized symbol of dodgy rust repair

if that is a genuine 68 model it's super rare and deserves a good home, if the body is good and the engine is an 8 or 12 cyl that isn't fragged go for it
didn't it used to be common to fit chevy small blocks in these? that would be cool
