as always with a good bmw, please get it in manual (thankfully it only ever came in rwd)
the 128i is nice. quick but not fast but they're pretty cheap used and the engine is pretty reliable.
the 135i is damn quick stock and really fast when given the infamous jb4 tune. the engine is a problem child though, leaks a lot

The size doesn't add any character as it would in a kei car or Mini though, just reduces practicality. It'll be fully equipped so is unlikely to be lightweight either.

Most of those issues were fixed in later year models. I stayed away from them for their head gasket problems. But it's no more a problem than any other car these days.
