Why are pushrods still being used when OHC is lighter and more efficient?
>>
BECAUSE 'MURICA! FUCK YEA! FAGGOT!
>>
>>17012514
0/10 because you got me to (you) you
>>
>>17012514
because it still works and its cheaper.
>>
>>17012514
>muh why are gasoline and diesel engines still being used when nuclear power produces far more energy and you only need to fuel up like once during the lifetime of the car?
>>
>>17012514
>OHC
>lighter
>more efficient

Maybe if you're comparing OHC I4 2.0l to pushrod V8 5.7l
>>
>>17012591
nope. ohc v8s are lighter than pushrods
>>
Ohc is heavier, as far as efficiency, it will flow more air more precisely, but in most operating rpm ranges that improvement is canceled out by more weight, rotating mass, and possible timing inaccuracy due to longer chains stretching over time. Not to mention the plastic guides breaking and completely wrecking everything.
>>
>>17012624
>ohc is heavier
it literally isn't though?
>>
>>17012627
A 6.0 ohv ls weighs 4 ounces and cost 3 dollars and fiddy cents
A 3.0 dohc 3.0 2jz weight 12 tons and costs about 2000 dollars

Twice the displacement, a fraction the weight and cost.

>178 lbs
>500 hp
k. top that. lol
>>
Because it doesn't require as complex of a timing belt / chain system, OHC engines require more math to design, and are inherently taller which can be a packaging issue.
>>
>>17012728
Thats great if you don't plan on having something that's actually useable. loltorque.

It'd be fuckin' rad in a caterham tho.
>>
>>17012728
Top fuel dragster engine makes about 100hp per pound of engine.
>>
>>17012778
Kek I mean 10hp per pound
>>
>>17012774
not everyone is trying to haul your mother around
>>17012778
not production and breaks down after a half a mile

Why are >3cyls still being used when a Geo Metro is lighter and more efficient?
>>
Why are 18-wheelers still being used when pickup trucks are lighter and more efficient?
>>
Why are cars still being used when bicycles are lighter and more efficient?
>>

>needs rebuilding every 50k
>a rebuild costs the same as a new LS7
no thanks

Why are bicycles still being used when shoes are lighter and more efficient?

space, simply put. OHC engines are fuckhuge externally, especially when compared to a pushrod engine.
Pic related.
On the left, an LS3 6.2L V8 from General Motors.
On the right, a 302 Coyote 5.0L V8 from Ford.

pushshit needs to be rebuilt every 1/2 mile. top kek

ohc still weighs less see >>17012728

I get that you're actually being informative, I know you, but please don't reply to these threads.

Why does the new Ford ""GT"" have an 11 MPG V6 when the 918's V8 is lighter and more efficient?
>>
>>17013017
a super special engine where they welded 2 motorcycle engine together does not count. It's specially made for a single niche vehicle that virtually no one buys

>>17013018
I know it's bait. I ran out of fucks to give ages ago though. Blame Alphonse.
>>
>>17013025
both are lighter than the pushrod lt4. top kek

One engine does not speak for them all.
Maybe if you stopped jerking off to 2d anime women all day and actually worked on a car, you'd know.

Dodge Demon is OHV and it's the fastest car ever. Obviously pushrods are the greatest engine technology, there's no way anyone can ever dispute this.
>>
>>17012990
But OPs question was a legitimate question, even if they were trying to start shit.
>>
>>17014326
and the proper answer was given here.
>>17013012
>>
>>17014315
the demon is slower than the model s.
>>
OP is too lazy to Google.

Pushrods crenulate frenular velocity better than direct lobe impingement on the valve seating surface resulting is superior low end impeller life.
>>
>>17014326
No, this is just Alphonse shitposting. Fuxking everybody knows the pros and cons of each valve train style by now.
