No stop being an idiot.

This car before the restyling costed 26.000€ discount included and the used ones, from 2012, were sold for 22.000€.

What's the fucking point in buying used then?

I want an used one because this is the kind of car that I want to own for a bunch of years and resell for a better one, and I don't want to lose a ton of money buying the car new.

You pay 26.000€ but if you sell the car to a car saloon they'll offer you a ridiculously low amount of money, well under 18.000€ for your used GT-86...so again, why in the name of fuck are these car being sold at these high prices when used?

I live in Europe and I can assure you that on websites like autoscout you can find the same car on sale for 1-2 years before it would be bought.

This is another episode of America = the world, isn't it?

I'm upset because this car is a total flop in Europe and it doesn't make sense this shit, why in the hell one would consider buying the car used when adding 4000€ would get him a NEW car.

New = MY 2017 , instead of a MY2013

This is the most used website for selling cars in Europe and as I said this car is a flop in Europe, is rare.

If you can't find an used GT-86 there you won't find it at all, also because many cars there are sold by car dealers (you can find both private people selling their cars and new/used cars from dealers).

If you're suggesting that I should buy the car from another country in Europe I'd tell you that even if I can find a bargain then I'd fuck up with import taxes and expenses for getting the car registered with a local plate.

However, the new MX-5 is less expensive and has got reasonable prices even if it's a younger model and the used cars are few...this makes me think.

How much money would you have to drop into a GT86 to bring it to a moderate level of power? I'm not talking about making it compete with a mustang gt, but just enough power to make it worthwhile.

$5k probably. would need tens of thousands to get it to any respectable power level, even then would get shit on by a turbo or supercharged v8.

Apparently getting an overhauled exhaust system (header, downpipe, etc.) plus ecu tune should be enough to get rid of the dip and also "wake it up". That's like 1-2k.
If you want more there's superchargers, they aren't that expensive afaik.
That said, if you drive it with the prius tires it feels lively enough (unless you go to a track, and then get left behind by everything).

There is no demand in the coupe market. Especially the rwd entry level market.

So the price of the Toyobaru reflects this low demand.

hoon out the car to learn to drive and wear out those prius tires. then put on some proper rubber.

flash the ECU to get rid of that damn dip in mid rpm power and torx.

>>16986279
Its marketed as a sports coupe/car what ever you wanna call it

retards buy it because they think its fast because it looks fast even though its not fast at all.

Subaru/toyota STILL won't fix that massive gaping torque dip between 3500 and 6500

Its wickedly overpriced for what you get, the smartest decision for this car is to always get used for <18k. Although buying used is almost always more economic than buying new this car in particular sucks in such a way that paying 26k for a brand new BRZ doesn't make any sense to anyone but the most stupid of people with more money than sense.

Another issue is the car is marketed as a sleak, fast, performance car to the supposed "performance market" but the car is so slow and overpriced out of the gate that theres no sense in blowing some 7k more in mods to make the car compete with its competitors like the 370Z that are already cheaper, faster, bigger better stronger in every metric right out of the gate for 29k for the sport package.

Another glaring issue is the meme that its supposedly a "light car" and that means "its very agile because of it" The problem with this meme is that the car is certainly light but the car isn't very powerful enough to take advantage of the lesser weight. It can't turn or pull around corners any faster than its competition purely and only because of its thin tires and its lack of torque/power

The last issue/meme I hate is when people say shit like "well it was meant for drifting" which is a shitty meme because the car's turning radius isn't that great nor does it have a significant amount of torque to even attempt a drift normally. What faggots seem to mistake is the difference between a drift and a shitty power slide because they think that oversteer is cool and that means this piece of shit with all-season tires is great.

TLDR
-too expensive
-not a performance car
-based on looks and advertising rather than performance
-doesn't appeal to any sort of performance market

Overall, the only fags who defend it are the losers that run out of reasons and default to "muh feels" and call it fun

They only call it fun because they can't find any other reason why its good but their opinion which is based out of buyers remorse or just blatant shilling. When someone attempts to pass their opinion as an end all be all, matter of factly fact you can't attempt to challenge it without attempting to say that an opinion isn't a fact. It sounds obvious to say that an opinion isn't a fact but when you're dealing with someone who states explicitly (as if it were a fact) that its fun, any attempt against it is erroneous quite literally like arguing against a non-argument. The fun argument works no where but the most desperate attempt to justify a car's entity or premise in a field while dismissing all other disadvantages as non-sequitur or out of plain ignorance

>>16991995
No I'm saying that "its fun" isn't an argument worth any value or contribution.

Using it like a fact is erroneous and fallacious. It doesn't actually mean anything. Its based on nothing, not even based on conjecture. Its made up of ignorance and arrogance to deny any and all disadvantages because apparently they don't matter unless I suddenly default to the "its fun position" then nothing matters

Like a pigeon playing chess with a chess master, the pigeon will strut around on the chess board, take a shit and proclaim victory
>>
>>16992018
What car do you drive and how EXACTLY would you describe it to a possible buyer or interested person
>>
>>16992028
my DD is a Honda Civic Si

I would describe the Honda Civic Si as a well rounded performance based trim that greatly differs itself from the regular honda civic. The Si bolsters itself with a much larger more powerful engine paired with a stiffer stronger suspension will make the Si perform much more sharp and light than its lesser variants. Mix this with its close-ratio 6 speed makes the Si perform and accelerate much quicker and respond better than the regular LX manual and even better so against the CVT version which desu is sluggish due to the variability of the transmission even in its "sports mode" which is just a screamer switch. Drivers will notice the car's superior handling and power which will show its raw agility through turns as it doesn't lose any torque or power thanks to its LSD making it a great contender as a performance spec vehicle for a performance spec market.
>>
>>16992018
>No I'm saying that "its fun" isn't an argument worth any value or contribution.

So there is no worth in owning a car that is enjoyable to drive? The only things that matter are lap times, acceleration statistics, and other measurable metrics?

I'm sorry, but this is false.

>So there is no worth in owning a car that is enjoyable to drive?
No I'm saying that faced against all adversity, the person who defaults to the "its fun" argument does so based out of ignorance and disregard for all facts. He only justifies the car with "its fun" and nothing else. Why is it fun? Certainly a person who thinks its fun has SOMETHING to base it off of. But they don't, and they never do ever explain how a car that has huge performance issues, a lack of agility due to its anemic performance will somehow make up and justify it anyway just to either go against the grain and be ignorant.

>The only things that matter are lap times, acceleration statistics, and other measurable metrics?

No I didn't say this at all. I said that when retards claim its fun, they base it off of literally nothing. Its a claim and opinion of ignorance thats stood up as if it were fact.

>>16992056
Notice how I didn't use ANY subjectively based anything in that short paragraph. It was all objective, based on fact. I can certainly say that my car is fun to drive based on all those facts.

Its fun because it has great agility due to its suspension. Its fun because it has a powerful engine that bolsters its performance. Its fun because the LSD enables torque to the dominant wheels to maintain maximum traction and slippage is minimal which also contributes to its ability to take corners very fast.

its virtually the same as the BRZ, I can lower my seats to be more flat if I really wanted to. Jesus christ you're retarded

>everything you mentioned the 86 does better
the Civic Si with the 2.4L engine is better than the 86 in every way. Its faster, more agile, accelerates quicker, has a better suspension objectively, its 4k cheaper, has a WAY larger third party market and everything.

>>
>>16992095
>dodge anything
I want my transmission to last longer than 30k miles

>why didn't you buy that instead?
because I liked the civic si more. I enjoy the modern feel of the cluster, I like the clutch which is very linear and light. I enjoy how easy it is to work on since all the civic parts from the last decade and well into the previous decade as well. Ease of use, minimal maintenance and my general preference for Hondas from previous Hondas I've owned made it a desirable choice for me
>>
>>16992103
The Civic is heavier, cheaply made, ugly in coupe form, slower, and FWD. Lowering your seat doesn't give you a better seating position with those trash seats
>>

You say this in every thread you post in, claiming that seating position is not relevant. There is a huge difference between the Civic and FRS. Just the same as there is a difference between an Elise and a WRX.

You can only adjust the seat so much in an economy car platform like the civc
>>
>>16986279
What minivans are faster than the 86 outta curiosity?
>>
>>16992126

You know what's interesting?

The fact that the Civic is more heavy, has only about 20hp more, FWD, 4 door but can still post a decent Nurburgring lap time.

Get over your shitty RWD Corolla.
>>
>>16992120
The 86 is reliable and easy to work on too, which is why people like it.

The clutch, transmission, braking, and steering feel great, which is another reason why people enjoy it.

The Civic is a shit car on paper, but is fun to drive and cheap to maintain which is why you like it
>>
>>16992165
Don't worry anon, I'd be upset if an SI was all I could afford too
>>
>>16992126
>The Civic is heavier
and still takes turns way faster than the brz, the agility is superior in the civic even though its about 400-500lbs heavier. Go figure. Maybe you'd understand what agility is and that its not all based in weight

>cheaply made
another bullshit claim you pulled out of your ass?

>ugly
lol your opinion
>slower
its definitely NOT slower than the BRZ, the Civic Si accelerates much quicker because it has a lot more torque than the brz through the middle of its RPM's unlike the BRZ that actually LOSES torque

>MUH SEATING POSITION
jesus christ you're retarded. I can lower my seat to 5-6 inches off the floor and fully adjust everything about the seat including the cushion's angle so its not parallel with the floor. I can literally put it into ANY position the BRZ can and if you're whining over where an ADJUSTABLE seat is you've got more problems than just autism

Lol you said you enjoy your civic for its modern gauge cluster.

You have already proven that there are a lot of subjective factors that influence your feelings towards a specific car.

There is a lot that doesn't get translated into paper when comparing cars. It's why you bought a slow Civic Si over a Cobalt Turbo, and it's why some people buy a slow BRZ over a ecoboost mustang
>>
>>16992425
Kek not if you're driving. You'll never know the g-force of taking a tight turn at 50mph while maintaining full traction, only to come out of the turn with 282hp and vtec to rocket you back up to 70 in a second (And without a factory torque dip nonetheless lmao). My point is you can have fun with any car and it's a subjective quality that can't be used to win an argument.
>inb4 no skill
It still takes knowledge of intermediate weight shifting techniques to get no understeer on a heavy ass accord going uphill. You have to make sure that too much weight doesn't shift to the back before the apex of the turn. Maybe I'll waste my time arguing with you again once you come up with an actual argument as to why the gt86 shouldn't be worth 21k at max.
>>
>>16992398
No. I'm saying what's the point of owning a "fast" car that isn't fast?
>>
>>16992493

I just wonder why people on an supposed enthusiast board even care enough to be socks to each other. Just drive what you like and enjoy it for your own reasons.

I'm 32, I've technically owned about 16 cars since I was 17 (flipping). I work in the industry, I drive willow springs roughly 10 times a year. Cars are hands down the most subjective luxury out there.

I drive an old M3. Is it fast? Reasonably. Is it fun? Of course. I spent only 13k on it and spent another 800 on preventative maintenance.

It's cheaper than a toyobaru, more powerful, and more fun. Does that mean I hate toyobaru drivers? Heck no, to each their own.

I've always been a fan of the Zs. 280z, 300zx, 370z. They got a bit heavier but as far as all around JDM performance coupes, they are as cheap as it gets. It's easy to make a lot of power out of them. With bolt ons, you can get the 370z in the mid 300whps. Then just drop it and throw on lightweight wheels, and you are competing with cars in the $50,000 range easy.

Meanwhile the BRZ has trouble keeping up with minivans.

Of course you're going to have to go above the price bracket to find something better, that how you key in a median for comparison.

>>16992871
Here let me help, you can still do this same thought experiment with the Toyotwins. Just add better brakes, better tores, more linear power, a nice short throw, and a better throttle body. There's a 2013 370z NISMO with 25k miles going for $28,000 near me.

The sport package is only $3,000 more than the base ($29,000 new). You can pick that up for almost sub 20 grand with around 30k miles on the clock.

>I don't know what yall problem with this car is
The problem is this is 4chan.

Outside of /o/, the BRZ/GT86 are popular modding cars and have a large aftermarket as well as an active community. I personally think they are a bit overpriced for a new one, but the used cars can be had for a reasonable price and are very mod friendly.

>300bhp in a car weighing 1200kg, that isn't well insulated from bumps and noise, and is low to the ground,

Excuse me, have you ever driven something like the car you are trying to describe?

My daily is a Fairlady Z aka 350 (just an average 350z: BBK, Tein Flex Z, full exhaust, flashed ECU, MT, lightweight rims and decent tires). It's fucking slow.

I mean it's really sloooow.

For real.

You have to have at least 400-500whp for an 1200-1400kg car to have fun.

If getting such car is way over your budget then go get a 600cc track bike and spend what's left on gear and track days and tires.

Much better investment, TONS and TONS of fun. Being there, done that. ;)
>>
>>16996664
You hear it a lot because idiots think the shitty all seasons tires it comes with must mean it's meant for drifting when really these thin shitty tires don't give you good grip for things like agile and high speed cornering. So it's almost a contradiction really

>dude it's so light meant to go around corners quick!
>dude shitty tires no grip meant for drifting

When they say meant for drifting they mean he tried to take a turn at a stop sign and power slid all the way through because he did something retarded like weld the differential
>>

Of course it's worse than more expensive sport cars, that's literally the point of a basis of comparison, I don't know how you can be this dense. I'm not saying that people shopping for this should suddenly start looking at 80 thousand dollar cars, I'm saying the people who think this car is use drive more 80 thousand dollar cars so they have a BASIS OF COMPARISON.

>>
>>16996953
350Zs were the original BRZs when they first came out. They looked nice, like a performance car, but were absolute snails on the road. The HR motor gave it a little bit of life to where it was almost enjoyable. 370z seemed to fix that. 350hp in a relatively lightweight coupe should be the bare minimum in an entry level performance car. Then Toyota came around and decided they were going to build a sports car but for toddlers and we know have the BRZ.

The wrx is the same price as a brz and the wrx has the same engine with a turbo while the brz had the same engine with no turbo

It doesn't make sense, they could have made 250hp easily if they used the same turbo but they jewed out on it and kept the same price.

People have concluded that it either needs a little more power and to fix the torque dip to be better or it needs to be at least 3k cheaper
>>
>>16997884
Alot fewer people would be buying wrx's or sti's, 86 isn't a subaru car so why mess with their sales if it sells well enough as it is
>>
>>16997901
The brz and 86 are virtually the same car with small cosmetic differences and certain physical differences like tires and suspension

The reason I compared it to the wrx is because the brz and wrx share the exact same engine but the wrx has a turbo and makes 75 more hp because of it. Why didn't the brz get the turbo as as well?

It's not a great deal at all. It's wickedly overpriced that's what everyone complained about in the beginning

It's undpowered as shit and subaru/Toyota still one fix the fucking torque deficit that's been plaguing it for what? 5+ years. That torque dip causes the car to lose significant acceleration through the middle of its gear. Even if you red line it the next gear shifts right into the depression of that deficit
>>
>>16998004
It turns out the only thing you need to do to fix the torque dip is to tune the ECU a little. That's all and toyobaru won't do it
