any datsun owners on here can give some bit of advise? I'm currently looking for an s2000 AP2, but I didn't realize up until this point that I could buy a nice 240-280z with that same 20k.
Would it be the smartest move to buy a near 50 year old car with the intent of driving it 60-100 miles a day as a daily driver? I already DD a miata with no power anything, so I'm already used to driving with the basics, and safety is the last thing I give a shit about. I was originally going with the s2000 since its a reliable car, but I don't mind moving over to something like a z if it means its probably the last time I would be able to buy one.

Honestly op I'm gonna level with you right now.
Get the s2000, I'd say get the Datsun but that's if you're okay with it just not starting somedays and having to spend that day fixing it. Also rust.
The Datsun is sweet with a lot of nostalgia, but its gonna be a maintenance nightmare.
As someone who DDs a 240z 60 miles a day, I'm gonna say don't do it unless you're really in love with the car. It's going to be loud and rough, you'll be run off the road constantly by people who can't see you past the huge beltlines of newer cars, and you'll face random issues all the time because it's a nearly half-century old car and shit goes wrong.
Also rust.

280z will never increase that much in value.. the 240z could continue to grow in value.. but good ones have been at the 20k range for quite a while.
Unless you are a collector i would pick the 280z over the 240z. Yes the 240z is purer, but the 280z can get down in weight, and you can dump the fuel injection for tripple webers or SUs.
I would pick the 2000, its a better car, looks good enough.

God no
And if you're going to be daily driving you're probably better off getting a Boxster S, the S2000 is more of a weekend or track car
Hell you could probably get a 996 911 or a 987 Cayman for $20k

I wouldn't be able to afford the Porsche maintenance, I kinda wanted to take the s2000 as well since NASA doesn't require a roll bar for their HPDE events.
the only negative im seeing with the s2000 is the 400+ a month for the insurance that I'm going to be paying for it, and the additional investment of security devices so my seats dont get stolen

lel I pay $86 a month to insure my Boxster, seems the insurance costs offsets any extra maintenance
Still thought, it's not that bad if you aren't a pansy and do the work yourself

I ask myself that every night.
All I want is a white E28 M5.
