>think car has a vacuum leak
>engine light one with p0174 and p0171 codes
>runs really lean when idling (STFTs are are above 15)
>just don't let the car idle (put it in park at long stops and rev it)
>light doesn't come back on
>pass inspection
Also what could the problem be?

But I'm not actually sure if it does
I'm not very experienced with mechanic shit and don't really have any way I feel safe testing for one.

There really isn't a good way to test for one. The best thing you can do is look around.
>Are any vacuum lines dry rotted?
>Are any lines visibly cracked?
>Are any fittings loose?
A lot of times old and shirt vacuum lines cause these issues and the solution is just to replace them all and replace all the clamps, which is pretty cheap to do.

My car is doing the exact same thing. It also struggles sometimes when it starts up. I passed inspection but my SES light keeps going on and off. I was thinking its the spark plugs but I'm not sure.
Why can't anyone on this god forsaken board ever ask a question about their vehicle and actually provide what type of vehicle it is?
Rev the engine to 3000 RPM whilst observing the STFT. If the STFT goes to zero or near abouts then it's pretty much proof positive of a vacuum leak. If they don't then look into other causes such as a dirty or failing MAF, clogged injectors, or weak fuel pump.

Ford Taurus
forgot about this thread lol

Spraying suspectsources of vacuum leaks with carburetor cleaner works really well. If the spot you spray makes the engin rev up then the source of the leak has been found.

Upper intakes leak on these, you will need new gaskets.

Check pcv hoses

Already replaced with little to no improvement
Could you possibly borrow/rent a smoke machine? Was a blessing when I had an evap leak.
