why did truck based full size suv like the tahoe and expedition go out of style for car based crossovers?
is it all because of rising fuel prices?

The better question is why do Americans call utes trucks?
>>16956166
>people liked the ride height
>people didn't like the mpg and the rougher ride
>people didn't need the towing or offroad capability
>CAFE regulations
>carmakers gave the market what they wanted

Crash protection. Crossovers are unibody, and body-on-frame shit tends to roll over in a collision with anything smaller. If it doesn't the body pops the welds keeping it on the frame and continues moving, crushing your chilluns.
I feel that cars should be deliberately unsafe to promote safer driving, personally.
