I'm thinking about swapping my (equally powered and price equivalent) bike for a CBF 125

How difficult would it be to recreate a similar bike to the one pictured for my first custom?
Genuinely interested in doing this, I have people that can help me but I want to create a bike similar to this with a CBF

Nobody is hating on anyone riding a beginner bike. They're hating because you're trying to call it a 'city bike' and have gay stickers like it's fast. I'd laugh too if I saw a moped with a bad decisions sticker on it, except the person who would stick that to a moped would at least be doing it in jest.

>>
>>16931241
If you go to work change into your work shoes. Do you wear your work shoes outside of work? If not, leave them in work. If you wear them outside of work, buy another fucking pair of shoes.

If you go to meet friends who ride they will be in the same position. If they dont ride, you are going to be sat there in a jacket/pants anyway. What difference do boots make?

Buying boots on their squeekiness has to rank so low on the list of priorities, after you have factored in perfomance, durability, protection, price, functionality. Why not just get alpinestars bike trainers? Wont do a fucking thing for you anywhere above 30mph though.

>Check right globe, turns out bad low beam filament, so it gets replaced
>Shortly after, switch-fiddling no longer gets either low beam lights to turn on at all, unless I really move it around and then low beams flicker on for a second but cut out again

Could it be a switchgear contact issue? Or should I be checking that current is flowing through fuses, etc. Just seems weird that it would be a fuse issue when it seemed to be fixed (temporarily) by messing with the high beam switch

OP: Whats the service interval like on them? I'm in the market for a second bike. Currently have a 1000cc sportsbike. Need something I can commute on and ideally tour and have considered:

R1200GSA - poorfags will hate me but it is class leading. 250,000 miles the frame/engine is good for but watercooling probably isn't ideal. Reliability generally good
MT10/S1000r because Power but not sure if I am sold on the MT10 looks.
Superduke 1290 R - could probably sell my 1000cc and happily have this as my road toy and track bike, but KTM reliability.
Ducati - no
Suzuki - currently have, fancy a change
Kawasaki ZZR1400 - dont need a 200mph machine for touring, makes my sportsbike obsolete. Z1000r isn't great

I'm 6'1 so need something I can stretch out on a bit. Commute is 20 miles both ways, town and highway.

Ever since I started riding again after breaking my wrist and fucking up my knee, my goddamn knee hurts everytime I hop on my bike. I've been debating selling my bike and trying to get a supermoto since my knee wont be at the same angle on my current bike.

Pretty much my only option will be a DRZ, but there is a 2009 KTM 690 SMC for sale for 5k. Is there anything wrong with KTM other than their expensive parts? I've also heard the rocker arm bearings in the 09 lc4 like to go bad.

>KTM reliability
You realize the Husky is just a rebranded KTM 690 right?

Manual calls for oil change and valve check every 6200 miles. The 690 platform has been revised many times in the past 10 years and they've worked most of the bugs out. The last real issue was the roller rocker bearing failure rate being too high, which supposedly is fixed with the new head the 2017 Husky or 2016+ Duke has, so reliability should be high - don't expect it to take DRZ levels of neglect without issues though. Parts are more expensive than jap bikes, but availability is fine.

Test ride one, you'll buy it. If you're near SF just come ride mine.

Im in the UK, 1290 SD run £10k+ and I've heard bad things. Valves dropping when quickshifters are fitted, parts taking months to arrive and general poor workmanship. Husky isn't big in the UK in fact I've only seen one in the last 12 months and that was a 701. Even in big dealerships you wont see them, there are only 13 of them for sale in the whole of the UK on ebay right now.

Can you do the valves yourself? I self maintain my current bike but if it needs dealer PC connecting up then forget it, I would have thought you can reset the service light yourself?. Also oil every 6k? I do mine every 3 anyway.

Tons of people in the advrider 701 thread, which is the best source for info on these bikes, are in the UK. They love them. I'm pretty sure you can do the valve checks yourself dunno, mine only has 2000 miles on it. The SM is harder to find than the Enduro, and the 2017 version has the new head, the 2016 version had the old motor that makes slightly less power and slightly less torque, and the new motor has a second balance shaft so it's smooth as butter.

dirt bikes have a much higher center of gravity so they're prone to tipping back and wheelieing from much lower forces. Street bikes, especially supersports, have a lower center of gravity and are generally designed to be able to achieve maximum acceleration without the front lifting up.

VFR1200 was discontinued due to poor sales not making it work updating to EURO4, but the VFR1200X, Africa Twin, NC750S, and NC750X all still have DCT as an option (and the NM4 and Integra have it as standard).

Have the Knox Orsa v2 for summer and Dainese X-Travel for winter. For palm protection, the Orsas come out on top: sliders on both the outer and inner palm, so the base of your thumb has some solid protection. The X-Travels have a slider that wraps around to the outside of the hand, something the Orsas lack which is a bit of a shame (you get a double-layer of leather along the outside of the pinkie, but I;k have likes there to be a slider there).
Both are solid gloves. I'd discount any glove that lacks palm-sliders nowadays, which includes a lot of Dainese's lines that have yet to be updated (or their lower-end gear tat just has foam scaphoid pads).

The standard of riding gave me cancer. I'm the faggot who was arguing over why 140mph wheelies are fun the other night.

Watch the video... Wheelie into a left turn, on doing the left turn swerves over into the right side of the lane instead of holding the dominant position in the middle of the lane. This invites some prick in a car to overtake you as you have left the gap. Rider then goes from right side of the lane to left turning without checking over his shoulder for any dumbfuck overtaking. You stay in the centre or the left (or if you drive on the right) of he lane, to dominate that position. By moving to the right, you yield that lane to other vehicles. And you always shoulder-check when moving lanes, because right of way means nothing to a shit driver.

Have you been on the road less than a week or something? Road users do shit they're not supposed to all the time. If you're not keeping in the middle of your lane and dominating the position, you might encourage others to get into your lane (depending on road layout, junction etc.) or to overtake (on a single carriage way) when they might not have ordinarily considered it.

Unless i'm trying to scrape pegs on twisties i spend more time in the median than anywhere near the middle of the road

Guess claps aren't taught the lifesaver. He definitely should have checked over his left shoulder before making that left turn. Should have made one when moving over to the right prior to that ideally but at least he checked his mirror. We all get lazy some times.

Own a litre bike, see insurance quote for the KTM above for rider history.

>I won't deal with pablo's leaking tranny or billy bob joel forgetting the cap on his diesel
Nigga what. Leaking diesel wont be in the middle of the road from the filler cap. If the sump on the 'box or engine is leaking then yes, otherwise diesel will be in the troughs of the road.

Check different companies. They don't all evaluate different riders and bikes the same. One company quoted me like $7k per year for basic liability insurance on my CBR. Allstate quotes me like $3k. I ended up getting it for like $250 per year.
>>
>>16932180
Same. The only good advice I've heard is to practice popping up the front wheel and tapping the rear brake to drop it back down so you build muscle memory.
Last week I got the front wheel up a foot or so. I was rolling slowly, moved back in the seat then opened the throttle a decent amount then let go. I'm tempted to try again, I'm sure it's easy to just power wheelie and drop the wheel back down but it's the balancing act that scares me.

that's why you start small, ask anyone who has looped (or better yet don't ask them because they're usually retards, watch them loop instead) and it usually comes right after a big spurt of inspiration and confidence "I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna go all the way to 12" or whatever and they go beyond their abilities. (Another classic one is getting frustrated progress isn't happening as fast as they want and just going for it).

Going outside of your comfort zone is the aim on a motorcycle but you want to do it in a safe way, if you work your way up with a wheelie inch by inch and never try to increase your height too much at any given moment you'll never loop.

my entire theory on riding motorcycles is to work up slowly but practice 3x more than the next guy.

yes this is very good
Also practice holding the throttle fairly steady after the front wheel comes up, until you've reached your desired height.

It's easier to wheelie bikes with a high center of gravity than something like a sport bike. If you have access to a little dirt bike I suggest practicing on that.

>What exactly is an "Observation" or "Lifesaver" during Motorcycle Training?
>There are six occasions when it is appropriate to do an observation/lifesaver:
>ii). Moving or turning to the left - including turning into a side road, moving back to the left having passed a large stationary vehicle, pulling into the side of the road or changing lanes.
>5/. Which direction should I do my observation/lifesaver?
The direction you turn your head should be based on where you think that the most likelihood of danger is coming from. So for example if you are turning right the final “lifesaver” will be over your right shoulder. However, say if you are at a set of lights or in the middle lane at a roundabout then you may feel it necessary to look over both shoulders.
>over your right shoulder.

I'll give it a shot. Sit downs on my dirt bikes are a lot easier. Since they're made to be ridden standing up when upright, it is way too much stress to hang behind the bike standing up while wheelieing.
My main problem with the CBR is I haven't found the sweet spots yet. I mean finding just the right rpm range to pop it up, then finding where the balance point is.

yeah the sweet spot is much lower standing and you can pump the front that much harder, I for the life of me cannot pop the bike in 2nd sitting but it comes up great standing.

1 foot on the passenger pegs means it's tough to shift though and you need pretty flexible "boots" to use the rear brake well.

Cheaper to buy a new plastic mud guard for a dirt bike than it is to replace a totaled road bike because you flipped it.
you can also cut slits into the mud guard on most dirt bikes so it will not even break if you do flip it.

All I have are MX boots and normal shoes. I had to move the shift lever way up to be able to get the boot under the shifter. The brake is in a good position for sitting down but I'm not sure I've tried using it standing up in those boots on that bike.

yeah that was my experience learning shifting wheelies (before I stopped practicing altogether and regressed to shitter level again).

85% of the time: front slams down
10% of the time: Bike shoots upwards giving you a sheer heart attack (real cardiac) making you stomp on that shit.
5% of the time: bike shifted perfectly into 2nd and I rolled out the longest sitdowns I've ever done.

Ratios got better as I went along but then I stopped because super long wheelies on an SV650 probably not the smartest idea.

most motorcyclists are in your position.

The difference is what you choose to do with this, there are 3 paths here.

1. is the path of least resistance, to pretend you don't want to wheelie, that wheelies or stupid or my personal favourite that "you totally can wheelie but don't like it". This is what most people do, trying to have their cake and save face too.

2. is the honest path, admitting you're too scared, knowing you want to, but still not doing it, this is the rarest path but also useless.

3. Is to get your bum on a seat, your bike to an empty off road practice spot and spend an hour a week practicing, because with regular practice it'll only take a few weeks to learn to wheelie. I practiced an hour a day on weekends and could do some garbage rollers after about 6 weeks.

Where most people go wrong is they JUST DON'T PRACTICE, wheelies are scary but if you spend an hour a week trying them eventually they're not scary, and you have a now expanded comfort zone.
>>
>>16932577
>actually caring about the maybe 5-10% difference in power

Mine was. Sounded fantastic, but was boring.

My CX was also pretty boring but it was my first real bike so it will never be boring in my mind.

Nice bike.

>>16932883
Probably not, old, shit handling carbed bikes have character though, even if they're subjectively not that great
>>
>>16932910
>>16932901
Why the weird resolutions?
Almost like you dont actually own the bike and are cropping pictures from a youtube video

Spec:
Full Akra race exhaust/headers
Custom cam's - not sure of spec as previous owner did all the engine work
PC3 - dyno'd
Nikko Racing Gpack Over 300 - derestricted
Brembo RC19 front brake cylinder
Whyte Power rear Shock
K-Tech front forks
Ohlins damper (think thats standard)
EBC wavy discs on the front
Brembo standard disc on the rear because who gives a fuck about the back brake
Aftermarket coils - I can't explain but they aren't for this bike, and aren't branded. They also require the spark plugs to be trimmed in order to fit them.

Probably some other shit I forgot to mention.

Getting called out for not owning a bike, take a still from 2 video;s of me riding said bike. I've got 150mph shots I could have screengrabbed if I could be arsed but the poorfags would get jelly

GoPro poorly setup. Had it running autotune which distorts the fuck out of the resolution and makes the screen look as though it's bending and flexing.

v4 is great for narrow
the rsv4 is like 25cm wide at the frame
while dynos may look similar in real life throttle response on a v will always be more explosive, such is the nature of the engine
and crossplane i4s sacrifice the inherent balance 180 i4s have
>>
>>16932255
No down shift?
>>
>>16932993
180 degree I4s don't actually have very good balance.
>>
>>16932994
I just pull in the clutch for sudden braking.
>>
>>16932962
It doesn't matter how you respond, to they but you won't win.
>>
>>16932993
I ride a V4 and it's fucking fat

That's probably a good thing though because my balls aren't cramped
