Pretty jelly. My dream is owning an older Tacoma that I can fuck around with.

Year/mileage/price? Hows the interior? What made you buy it?

I'm not sure what your use is for it, but the body looks in great shape minus that rust. With some sanding, paint, and new wheels, you could probably completely restore it and have a nice little toyota classic on your hands.
>>
>>16917452
Forgot to mention, post proof so you can add it to the montage. We only have 1 other Tacoma
>>
>>16917452
It's a 96, 200k miles, and got it for 2k.
My dad is just making room at his house and wanted to get it outta the way.
The interior isn't bad. He put some Corolla seats in it so it's pretty comfy. New clutch and drive shaft.
Not stressed over the rims. They'll clean up good enough for now.
I'll most likely use it for driving on the beach, in the mountains, and hiking my bikes aground on longer road trips
>>
>>16917458
Proof of? More pics will take a a few weeks. I leave for my hitch tonight for work. But will lurk while gone. And get more pics when back home

Thoughts on the Paseo? They're cheaper than corollas here, but are they worse?
>>
>>16920817
the 250 is pretty small and underpowered for a family cruiser. A third gen GS will treat you well. It's bigger and a lot comfier, way more suited for a family.

It would use more gas, but not enough to be significant unless you're counting every mile.

Or as >>16920868 said an ES is a cheaper alternative. After having owned an IS though I would never buy one with family in mind. Would definitely go with a GS or ES.

>>
>>16931065
>>16931091
only if you want to detonate the engine...

please use 91 octane, it's an expensive engine and will be worth the extra like 3 dollars per fill up, give or take depending on the prices.
Toyota specified at least 91 octane for that engine.

91 octane is already marginal for your engine's octane requirements.

"If you go through a tank a week, you are saving a whopping $124.80 per year, and risking a $2000+ engine rebuild. Doesn't sound like good odds to me. The 3SGTE ECU is not always good enough to save the engine from knock, particularly if you are running the wrong fuel. There's a reason why Toyota specified "Premium Fuel Only".
(from MR2OC btw)

Manual, Very good R154 is incredibly robust and will take pretty much all the horsepower your throw at it with an upgraded clutch. They're heavy and they blow headgaskets due to a factory error. Purchase ARP headbolts, replace headgasket and torque to 90 ft-lbs. Watch for rust under the mouldings if you see a pre 89 model. Anything you want to know specifically?

Is there often things wrong with the OEM turbo shit from age? do they start going to shit at a certain mileage etc.

It's either a supra or i save up a few grand more and buy an RSX type s desu. I care mostly about smiles rather than interior comfort or comfort in general.

Where are you where aw11's are more expensive than supras? Here they're about the same. Anyway, a turbocharger, LSD, manual trans, and RWD can always let you get up to some "fun". Burnouts and drifting can be in your future. With just an exhaust, it's quick enough to put a smile on your face and the 80s Turbo lag is dramatic and fun in its own way.

Had a good moment of puckering myself last night. Came down a small incline, towing the trailer on the left of the photo. Tried to brake slightly as there was a car stopped right in the intersections. Rear gave out, trailer pulled the rear out and I went sliding towards the car. Got my 2003 MR2 Roadster on the weekend.
So far given it a quick wash while I wait for polish and wax to arrive.

Need to clear up the front headlights using the ChrisFix permanent fix method.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEJbKLZ7RmM&list=LLljhKktsle_ReslX4D31ATw&index=1
Gonna touch up the wheels too to get them looking as new.
Handbrake cable needs adjusting as well as a new battery bracket.

How difficult are the struts to get a hold of and replace? Don't want anything too low or stiff cos it's my DD.
>>
>>16947226
DD? won't need struts probably. I'm willing to bet those sway bars are rusted and need replacement. you'll notice a greater difference with those anyways.

how do you like it btw? how's it drive
>>
>>16947236
It could do with new springs as they had advisories on its last MOT. I wanted to get an idea on how much struts are if there are any ready assembled kits out there. If not are springs easy to swap out on their own?

I love it. I had an AW11 for a couple years which I kept as factory fresh as I could before someone ran a red light into me and I've driven my brother's NA MX-5 a fair bit.
Feels a lot sportier and tighter than either of those and with your arse below the door sills you feel like you're sat in a go-kart. Drives really well and the ride is more comfortable than the MX cos I hated the angle you had between the seat and offset pedals. Although I'm gonna look at slimmer seat cushions as my knees brush the steering wheel when I'm coming off the pedals.

oh my bad I read struts and thought strut tower bars. in that case for sure it's a really good direct upgrade. I'm assuming you're from the UK? parts should be super cheap from somewhere like MR2BEN. they're easy to swap out if you've got a spring compressor.

those MRS are some pretty solid cars, ever thought about the 2zz swap?

if it's a manual tranny then watch out for a worn clutch (the oem ones don't last in that car for long) and check if 1st and 2nd are hard to get into.
The IS is equipped with floating calipers, thus they move within their mounts. This movements generates a "thud" emanating from the brakes the first time you touch the brakes in a new direction. ie., pull out of a parking space, brake *thud/clunk*, move forward, first time you brake *thud/clunk* This is NORMAL, do not worry about it.
Those are the only known "kinks" the is300 has, it's actually one of the most reliable Toyotas out there.
Nothing out of the ordinary (rust, worn suspension service records etc etc)

Bought it used for 115.000 norwegian kroner (NOK) back in October 2012. That's around $13.300 for a 2003 car with then 97k miles, 2 liters of displacement (1G-FE...) and 155-ish horsepower. When it was new, this thing cost in excess of 400.000 NOK ($46.400). So yeah. Lots of taxes.
Gasoline here is currently at 16 NOK per liter (where maybe 4 NOK is the price of gasoline). That translates to around $7 per gallon.
Don't pay extraordinary amount of taxes on it other than maybe some 3-4000 NOK per year.

stock CD player is likely shot
Front ball joints often get fucked
Brake pistons or sliding pins tend to seize (depending on climate car's been in) leading to super-hot-wheel-syndrome

Other than that, you should be fine. Engine and transmission are pretty bulletproof.

thoughts on a scion tc? thinking about getting one to replace my 02 golf tdi. i want something gas and go and quicker than my diesel, and they look nice and are fairly cheap and within my budget. are they reliable and are they expensive to fix? i know its not a sports car but it has got to be faster and more powerful than what i currently have as it has legitimately almost double the power.

Hey /tg/ looking to buy my first used corolla from a dealer. The vehicle is certified and after some research I found the average trade-in and dealer retail prices in my area. The actual listing for the vehicle on autotrader was $200 more than the average dealer retail price. The corolla is a 2016 model.
I want to know from where do I negotiate? Do I negotiate down from the average dealer retail price, negotiate up from the average trade-in value (carfax lists the car as coming from an auction,) or do I start in the middle of the two values?
tl;dr how do I get as close to the wholesale price as possible while still giving the salesman some profit?

Hey guys.

I picked this '93 1.6SI up for 1500€. 78000km on the odometer, perfect service record at the nearest Toyota dealership up until 55000km, independent after that, Borbet (I really don't know what it's worth) 15" x 195, 4 new no-name tires.

Paint is pristine aside from some bumper scratches on the corners, and a smooth dent on the passenger door, easily fixable.

I picked it up in a pretty rich part of the country so this car has probably never seen any bad road in her life, the drive is surprisingly quiet.

First thing to do is the timing belt, wich has never been done, despite the years.

Opinions?

The thing is, I don't know from which amount I should be basing my offer from. I'm kinda thinking I should base my starting offer on the average between the average trade-in value and the average MSRP. Am I on the right path?
The best possible scenario would be for me to learn their exact wholesale price so I can bargain up from there.

owner of the grey one here.
I did a lot of research into it and its.. uh... complicated.
Basically it seems in US the lim slip diff MAY HAVE been optional even on post facelift models. Whereas all uk ones seemed to have gotten it from the get go along with japanese.
But the manual for post facelift MRS says they do have LSD
I know mine got one cause advert said it did but I don't know about any others in europe.

There's a code on the vin plate under transmission which identifies the LSD. or you can just put water on the ground and do a burnout.

I can't find the source but it is a bit confusing and you'll find a lot of sources that state the opposite. Just google it from spyder fanclubs.
Generally post 2003 should have LSD
