the rolls of vinyl for diecutting seem cheap but getting any sort of selection adds up quick(especially when you include shipping into that), and unless you have a local clientele base you probably won't recover it.

I'm still doing customs but I need to really figure out a good way to do custom peeks and shit
the main problem is that my main cutter has too much trouble with pieces that are below a certain length, but as well below a certain width.
so in order for the machine to even attempt it, I had to rig and mount shit on a massive piece of sheeting with tape, but the real trouble with that is, it wobbled while being cut, and even in some cases ripped right off and spun.
When it eventually worked, I had it at the wrong depth for the material so it couldnt come off the backing. Frustrating and foolish of me.
I've considered attempting it with the machine we use for scraps but I don't trust it to do a good enough job .

I'm in contact with Robust, if you wanna do a custom order speak with him first and I'll throw stuff his way. If there's more than a few people interested I'll do a print run with Offset; otherwise this is the asset I have right now (minus the background, obviously) and you're within your rights to decide at where to crop it at.

Basically I haven't made a full print of it since I don't know whether to keep it as is or crop it more. I don't feel a huge desire to make it a peek anyways. If I don't make it into a peek on my site, you're welcome to do one through Robust.

well if you're getting locals asking you for stuff, keep in mind that locals will usually pay a lot more than online people, but also have no understanding at all of the process or how much effort it takes.
i make a pretty good little pot being one of the only ones people know about to do things like boat numbers.
for a set of numbers I usually charge between 40$ and 60$ depending on the size of the boat, and they usually make comments like "wow! that last asshole was really ripping me off! he was charging like a hundred bucks" and then gladly toss money in my hand and say they don't care what colour or font.
those are the easiest ones to deal with, but then those people have wives, who want everything swirly and complicated, for less than a song and a bat of their old weathered crowfooted eyes.
they also seem to think that the smaller something is the cheaper it should be, when all that does is makes the job harder to do.

i'm on the great lakes so I can get away with using regular car vinyl since its fresh water, no real worse than rain really, and these guys go through boats like you wouldn't believe on the rocks so even just 5 year can outlive the boat.
but if you're on the ocean you'll need to use marine vinyl which is a much more expensive vinyl, the salt does quite a number on it, and you'll also have to learn the limitations on size per craft and so on, as your customers will never do their research.
when dealing with locals it's very important to be 'the guy' and if you're not sure on something, don't be afraid to tell them you'll have to run some tests, if they really want whatever it is they'll come back, just get their contact information for it, and get as much information from them as you can about anything they want you to do.
simplicity is best and it is very easy to spook them, they can't handle complex subject matter usually, and for god sakes don't let them see your expensive specialty stuff
they'll want it used for everything, and for cheaper than than it was to get the damn stuff
only good use for specialty stuff is diecut slaps
it's a lot of work, especially early on when it'll be slow, because you have to work that much harder and use up that much more waste product to deliver results that make you look like 'the guy'
